"You're sick, Megabyte!" Warning: Spoilers
So this episode sees Dot and the CPU forces of the Principal Office working to devise a way of hopefully containing the growing threat of Megabyte and his far more powerful sister virus who he cruelly has captured and is using as a living weapon against his enemies. Meanwhile Enzo continues to gain confidence in his new position as guardian while trying to prove himself as a capable protector to the doubtful and scared binome citizens - although very soon enough he will learn the hard way that a young sprite has his limits... It begins right in the action without the usual series introduction with snowman game rebooted versions of Enzo and Andraia in a snowy ski slope type game, and it makes me chuckle how they don't know who Santa Clause is. I mean yeah, why would they? As our heroic murderers of jolly old Saint Nick emerge victorious from the game they are confronted by Megabyte who seriously threatens Enzo as he throttles and mocks him for being such a young guardian. He's still awesome, but the charming and slightly more lighthearted virus of the previous seasons is thoroughly gone, he's very much a ruthless and determined villain now. I have the greatest respect for the sadly departed Tony Jay, he put a wealth of richness and character into his voice role and was always wonderful just to listen to no matter what he did. At that point the missing introduction is explained as a nifty all new sequence pops up that has the cast of characters dancing sassily amid fire! I'm not a fan nor have I ever seen it to be honest, but even I'm aware that it's a parody of the song from the Goldfinger James Bond movie. It's not very 'Reboot' at all, but it is memorable and does give this episode a unique vibe among the series and I think it works just fine this one time ONLY. There's yet another quick foreshadowing moment with the emphasis on Enzo's eye during the sequence. And then soon comes down from the digital heavens another game that takes place in a giant kid's room with the characters as toy-sized racers and I love the attention to detail. It's a fun sequence that is a take on Wacky Races and Micro Machines and has nods to The Indian in the Cupboard, again James Bond who Enzo looks like in his rebooted form, and even Jurassic Park if you'll believe it! That they managed to cram so many pop references within one story while not having it feel bloated and keeping the action running smoothly is as always so impressively well done. And at the end after they win the game the young sprites encounter Megabyte again who prepares to strike Enzo down before the titular firewall is activated and his forces as well as Hexadecimal are captured with walls of flame and it ends on a triumphant note. But nothing is ever as permanent as it seems in the ever-shifting realm of Mainframe, and this is a good episode because it further develops Enzo as a guardian and also moves the escalating events of the story forward as the game is about to drastically change the beat once again...
