Asked to make rope out of vine, Mr. Howell (Jim Backus) calls himself, "Little old vine maker me." This was a reference to the '60s TV ad campaign for Italian Swiss Colony wine. Ludwig Stössel played the wine maker, but Backus dubbed his popular catch phrase, "That little old wine maker, me!"
The Professor addresses perhaps the most famous joke about the series: "If the Professor can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat." The Professor explains that the raw materials on the island will not yield a fastener (glue or nail) that will hold the Minnow (or any other craft) together long enough to safely get into the shipping lanes.
The final fate of the S.S. Minnow is revealed.
When Gilligan & Mary Ann are tapping trees on the island to try to find sap suitable for making syrup, fans get to witness a rare & tender moment between the two, & a bit of Mary Ann's flirty side, as they taste the sap of each tree. They try many trees to no avail.
