Because the pilot Marooned (1992) was unusable due to cast substitutions, a scene in which the castaways are listening to a radio broadcast that describes what has happened to them had to be added. Also, the opening scene for the pilot was used for this episode too - the original castaways from the pilot appear briefly while the Skipper rises from the wrecked MINNOW.
This is one of only two episodes in which the Skipper's actual name, Jonas Grumby, is said; the other episode is Home Sweet Hut (1964). All future episodes simply referred to Alan Hale, Jr's character as "the Skipper."
The transistor radio the group listens to on the beach during a news report mentioning their disappearance is a Packard Bell AR-851. The company name on appearing on the lower right was blacked out and the "PB" appearing vertically near the radio dial also was altered to mask the brand.
While the Castaways are listening to the radio it is established that Thurston Howell III is a billionaire.
