According to "The Ballad of Jed Clampett," heard here for the first time, the "poor mountaineer" found oil on his property while "shootin' for some food." In The Clampetts Strike Oil (1962) that discovery was made again later by a geologist, who told Jed that his swamp was "full of oil." Jed responded, "I could've told ya that," knowing he had oil on his property but unaware of its value. This may explain the seeming discrepancy between the pilot's story and the "story 'bout a man named Jed."

In one scene Granny checks out the soil in the front yard and finds it to her liking. She didn't know that it was not only against the law in Beverly Hills but there was an elaborate sprinkler system under it.
