Episode 40 begins with Jessica holding a party to celebrate Chester's life, except that none of his 40 friends could make it (they had headaches), and none of the family can come up with any amusing stories about him to share(Corinne even makes one up, a spiteful Tim adding "she's real good at making up stories!"). Sally reveals to Mary that she's the one he's been having an affair with, and that he is now cheating on her with an 18-year-old. Jodie journeys to Texas to visit Carol, meeting her mother Mrs. David(Peggy Pope), who is delighted that he looks so 'normal,' admitting to her daughter that he's her 'first homo.' Carol tells Jodie that it's best for the baby to grow up with another father, and he determinedly vows to be there for his child whenever he's needed. Chester is determined to return home, if he only knew where it was.

Jessica holds a party to celebrate Chester's life, a sort of wake, she encourages the whole family to share a fun story about her late husband. Sally confronts Mary and Jodie travels to Texas to meet Carol, and get some answers.

Now, getting to see this show in The UK is proving to be a challenge, I've had to import the dvd, and grab a multi region dvd player, I don't get it, surely this show was popular over here.

Tha usual mix of moving and funny, amazing how this show can veer from one extreme to the other, I laughed my head off at Chester, his realisation that he us Lester Pate, though I'd have preferred Gloria Swanson.

I thought Jodie's meeting with Carol was actually pretty sad, I'm starting to doubt now whether she is actually pregnant or not. The mother was definitely amusing though.

What exactly is Sally up to? Is she just out to cause trouble, or does she have a specific motive for ruining Burt?
