Basically just Most Wanted at night
Bentatorship21 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Basically, if you didn't like Underground 2 or Most Wanted, and are hoping that Carbon will bring you back to the series... it won't, it looks and feels identical to Need for Speed: Most Wanted, except the game takes place almost entirely at night (giving it a very Underground feel) Pros: 1. More customization options than you can shake a stick at. You can make a car any way you want, and use AutoSculpt to tweak it to make it unique.

2. Large selection of cars, from exotics, imports, and tuners.

3. New "Territory" system lets you control territory and pick and choose your race events. If you aren't a fan of Sprints, don't do em... you can still progress the storyline and unlock things.

Cons:

1. Unlocking decent cars takes... hours. Don't expect to have your dream car and trick it out early on. This means that you'll be driving a crappy selection of cars until the good stuff opens up. The way the cars are set up, a Tier 1 car will never be as fast as a Tier 2 car... so if you like your old Camaro SS... you can't use it on the Career mode, because even with every upgrade it will be slower than any Tier 2 car.

2. Game tends to crash the longer you play it, which is awesome when you're doing a boss race.

3. Mountain racing is over-hyped, and often times will make you want to tear out your eyes and eat them.

4. The computer AI either borderline cheats or is broken. It hugs the road like it's on a track, never making a mistake. If you make one mistake, you usually have to restart as it's impossible to catch up. Other times the AI (especially your Wingman) will get in your way, crash into you, get stuck in corners.... it's ridiculous

good

Warning: Spoilers
The NFS games are probably the best street racing games around. Over the years they have grown from basic racer to genre defining games...until this version.

EA are removing gameplay ideas and options, not adding them for the next generation. (Also see FIFA) You have less cars, less races, less bosses, less customisations and overall a lesser game from the previous game in the series...yet they charge more for it.

I really would not even bother with this unless you find it in a bargain bin somewhere for less than 10 notes.

If you have NFS: Most Wanted, stick with that, it a FAR better game. If you don't, buy it instead of this version. You can thank me later.

Need for speed:Carbon
mesasupertrooper17 January 2007
Need for speed Carbon is among the best of the street racing games. The customization is highly realistic. Player can edit virtually everything on their car.

The only problem I have with the game is the drifting, its very unrealistic, its almost like trying to drift from the backseat, leaning with the car to turn.

Microsoft is getting ridiculous with the concept of buying car parts from the marketplace, same thing with the in game money concept, just plain stupid.

I swore that I would never turn to the dark side(PS3) but with some of these stupid concepts and game of the year worthy games on the PS3, I just may have too.

Check out my other reviews on Dead Rising and Fight Night Round 3.

Brillian Game For Car Lovers, Who Like A lot Of Choice
mr_adv_200626 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I can remember the first time i got this game, i thought it was just another NFS Game , but it wasn't, unlike Most Wanted, it had better graphics plus loads and loads of choice, with customisation, and pick, and races. Also you get opportunities to race people for territory, and also their pinks slips. But this game i think will have a huge impact because its unlike any of the other NFS Games, meaning that, there are newer characters, new environments, different cars, different customisations. I also think that Microsoft should bring out a NFS Carbon 2, i think it will be cool. If i was to chose out of NFS Most Wanted or NFS Carbon, it would have to be Carbon. THIS GAME RULES!!

The continuation to Most Wanted.
new_releases30 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The main player has left Rockport, and is heading to Palmont, once again in his BMW M3 GTR. Sgt. Cross, however, is not far behind you. Sgt. Cross is now a bounty hunter. He chases you down a valley, and totals your ride. Darius rolls onto the scene, and busts you out of Cross's clutches. To repay Darius, you must, again, get a new ride. This time, instead of going through a Blacklist, you must take over regions. Complete races, and get the attention of the gang leaders that own the territories. Beat them all. The graphics are improved in Carbon, and there are new rides, and you can customize them better. There's also "crew." This time, you don't do races alone, you'll have a wingman. And, as always, there'll be cop chases. The game crashes a lot on the PC version, but it's still an awesome game.

I don't know

McLane, the game isn't THAT bad. It wasn't a waste of money, granted it wasn't the best game, but there aren't that little cars, maybe 3 or 4 less than what MW had, but what they lack in cars they make up for in body kits and fully customizable body kits with the molding ability, that and you can import your own paint jobs too. The story line is great too. The game I think deserves more than what you give it credit for. Its the first of its kind, really to continue the story from Most Wanted. Its good game but I do suggest buying Most Wanted before Carbon if you've yet to play it, otherwise the storyline wont make as much sense. ALSO, they added true American Muscle to the game. FINALLY the 67' Charger makes it's well deserved appearance!

Good, but could be better

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, NFS Most Wanted is probably your best bet. It focuses more on pursuits to engage the player, better graphics, more realistic prices for cars and just more fun all around. Most Wanted was ballz out in the daylight!! And its easier to make the cop cars flip and slide across the road.

Carbon has bunches of shortcuts(which helps during sprints and circuits) Drifting ain't exactly my cup of tea, but it's alright. Another thing, in MW, you could re-enter races for the same amount of cash, in Carbon after re-winning the race, all you get is some crummy $500! A lot of cars are locked in challenge mode also(good luck with that). Music TRAX are so-so. I did like that you could drop the ride height.

I hope the new installment coming in the fall upstages the last one.

Better than most wanted in customization but not as focused on pursuits.
tackythpenguin6 November 2006
I thought overall the game was just a bit better than most wanted. The customization was better, allowing ride height to be changed and more performance customization details. Autosculpt was a great feature and also you can move the vinyls, skew, rotate, and change colors. I was disappointed though that many things in the game had to be unlocked by completing challenge series or reward cards, where in most wanted you had to beat bosses. Also, most wanted had a bigger focus on police pursuits which i thought was much better than carbon, where you didn't even need to engage in a single pursuit to finish the game (although sometimes you had no choice; they sometimes show up in the middle of races). The ending was rather weak, but I won't give it away.

Best NFS Yet
LadySailor197525 May 2016
This is the best one as far as story and gameplay and I love the crew racing. My favorite rival was Angie. The crew remarks were quite entertaining and they made racing more fun. Like I said with "NFS Most Wanted," this should also have the choice of a female driver and to see a female arrested in the police video shots in the game. For a female player, the roles of Darius and Nikki could be swapped.

I was so disappointed in the continual decreasing in the number of vinyls for the car and no contest was held this time. EA is becoming lazy, I believe.

Why was it in Tier 3, all the muscle car opponents had no Mustangs? They all had Challengers, Vipers, and Corvettes. I do like all these cars, but I also like Mustangs.

I would like to see future NFS games add Saleen and Roush Mustangs for players to have. It would be fun to race Cross.

I would, no matter, like to see NFS return to this. "NFS The Run" was no more than a "Grand Theft Auto" knock-off and awful; and I want this back. I want my own name, not Jack (so over-used in games and movies and TV) and not Player (NFS Undercover). I want my name.

Good, but still way too short
hstyrmoe2 December 2006
The game is good - Tons of things u can fix with your car to maximize the performance for your likings, like auto-sculpting every part of your vehicle, and it's about 7 zones on each autosculpt. Fun races, and nice online-game play. What I hate about the career mode is the fact that it is was too short, if you're a decent racer you can complete your career in 4 hours.

What EA has to work on when releasing the next NFS is to make sure the game lasts, it's way too easy as well, so I really hope they'll increase the level of difficulty, maybe make an option when beginning career that asks for difficulty level.

But overall, great game and I recommend it. 8.0

good old days!
wilson199423 November 2022
Hey guys and girls It's late 2022 and I accidentally found this game's page here I don't know if the creators of this game see the comments or not, but this game is still great and I enjoy the experience of this game.

How quickly we got old :( I remember playing this game on my weak system and enjoying it, and the graphics were stunning at that time.

I wish I could enjoy the games again I used to play this game for maybe 6 hours a day and I never got tired of playing this game Thanks to the creators of this game.

Even my family used to play this game and enjoyed its experience :) This game was great in its time!
