ER is the best programme on TV and this episode was the best of the best. I can't wait for the next series to find out what happened - can't believe I have to wait until next year. Where's Sam? What about Abby and her baby? Poor Kovac is hand cuffed to a bed and can't get up to help Abby. Will Morris leave? Will Nilah and Ray ever to get together (there is definitely something going on between them). This episode had everything, love, tears, adventure, thrills and even an amazing gun fight at the end. The best cliff hanger in the history of ER without a doubt. Forgot about Jerry - will he survive his gun shot wound? Will they find Abby in time??

Warning: Spoilers
I think this was the best season finale I have ever seen. But I really wish it wasn't the finale. The ending was so amazing. Being the Abby lover I am and Luby lover I've become, the ending truly killed me. Once the credits came up and I realized there was no more to see, I literally collapsed on the floor and sobbed. My friend and I watched it together and we were screaming the whole way through. I know all this may seem extreme, but if you know us, it's really not. This episode was amazing with the tension. Luka tied up. Sam kidnapped. Alex kidnapped. Jerry shot. and Abby miscarrying! This is one of the first finale's I've ever seen where it makes me scream "I can't wait until the next season starts!!" And I really can't. I have it marked on my calender. September 21st. ER S13 Premiere. And I hope you all felt the same, but if you didn't, then I just think you're crazy. I can't help but feel sorry for both Abby and Luka. I'd feel sorry for Neela and Pratt too but I don't love them as much as I do Luka and Abby. These 4 months of waiting will definitely be intense. And this finale was definitely one of th best one's I've ever seen. Great job, TPTB. We knew you had it in you somewhere! -Sarah

creating a simple scene is so appealing.
flyam13 July 2006
I have found throughout my medical career that so often the less said

and simply acting to any situation is extremely desirable. Maura

Tierney has done this so naturally, it begs one to remember she is an

actress and not a physician. Of course the essence of the final scene,

I can almost feel the entire atmosphere as it seemed "oh not again."

I was holding my breath and my eyes were darting about looking for key characters. Goran was totally helpless in the situation and Shane was the consummate doctor and not the rocker he thought he wanted to be. We saw a boy become a man when given an ultimatum. I will be looking forward to the return come the new season.

best ER season finale yet!!
emo858 June 2006
this was the best ever!! i hope ER goes on for many more seasons because this episode displays exactly what the show is capable of - greatness!!!

i think maura tierney is probably the best actress ER has ever seen. and the rest of them are great too. shane west is exactly the type of young actor i like to see on TV.

i also like the fact that the show is quite real and it doesn't have any crap. its fast and real yet sometimes sad and emotional.

i hope that the next few seasons will display this type of episode we have seen so far on ER.

21 Guns (#12.22)

Warning: Spoilers
I said in my previous review that I am amazed that it wasn't a finale and wondered how they could make a better season finale. Well, they sure managed to do so. The finale was amazing and I can't wait to see how it all ends up.

The calm part was Gallant's funeral. It was great to see Pratt dealing with Neela and trying to make her feel better. she also had flashbacks to her time with Michael, which ironically pretty much all could fit into a few minutes without missing out on any important part, since they basically spend no time together. How dare she to yell at his father who unlike her actually lost somebody he knew.

But all the scenes in the hospital were amazing. Very dramatic and full of action. What happens with Luka is especially horrifying since he is paralyzed and also gets to see Abby pass out while he can't move.

I am also very worried about Jerry. Would hate it if he ends up dead. I hope not! But in such situations somebody often has to die and I am worried it will be him...

Best finale for ER ever!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
The action was unbelievable!! I was surprised how well Morris stepped up and help get Jerry to surgery. I was in tears for Abby and Luka! I would be going crazy if I was Luka seeing Abby collapse and not being able to do anything. I was so worried about Abby! I don't understand how two convicts end up shooting so many people and the cops don't hit them once!?!. And why not shoot out tires of van instead of windows? I also felt horrible for Neela growing up in a military family and having a son in the military. I completely understand why she got so upset at Michael's father for talking about a good day to die. Just seemed heartless to me even though I know his father loved him...but to say it in front of Neela who is utterly lost.

Even though this is somewhat unrelated I can't stand the character of Sam. She does whatever she wants and gets away with it. It seems that devastation follows her wherever she is or whatever she does. If it wasn't for her Abby wouldn't have been caught up in the shootout and ended up needing hysterectomy and premature birth. Jerry wouldn't have been shot. On top of everything whenever a "relationship " isn't going well she uses her son as an excuse to leave. She just moves on to the next guy until she gets done with guy and says she needs to concentrate on her son. Maybe if she had a real lasting relationship her son wouldn't be so screwed up.

Gallant Twin Sister
kennygraddick29 June 2023
I'm surprised they didn't bring her character back for the funeral, especially with Pratt being there. There was a young lady sitting next to the dad though with hat on head, but wasn't the same actress. That shootout was cool, very "Young Guns" style. Sam having back to back season finales is weird for anyone who's not the main character. I don't like Alex, I'm hoping he get shot and die lol. The amount of shootouts this hospital be having is crazy. They need the national guard to protect this place. Morris stepping up big time to save Jerry was cool too. I guess he will change his mind and stay, maybe be an attending next season.

Yet another...
slak96u12 March 2022
How many season finale will be devoted to Sam's character, or her son. It's getting a bit ridiculous... The writers were absolutely bent on shoving Linda Cardellini down our throat, regardless of her character being insufferable. No wonder Sherry Stringfield unceremoniously quit. At this point in ERs run they were being blown out of the water by Grey's Anatomy, rating wise, so ER felt the need to do episodes like this one....

Poor episode, suspension of disbelief gone
mrwb7722 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Dreadful episode. Totally failed the suspension of disbelief test for me.

Remember a few seasons back, Carter got metal detectors and security? Jerry even blew the ER up in an earlier season.

A prison would let the ex wife of a convict work on him in hospital? Really? Such terrible contrived writing.

Kerry weaver must be like, wtf is going on here, again more ER staff down....

Meanwhile Neela is ranting at Gallants dad at the wake. Self righteous and utterly odious character.

How many shootouts, stabbings can one ER have? How many miscarriages can the staff at this hospital have?

I have watched all the way since first episode, one per day. Was a brilliant show for the first 8 seasons or so. Jumped the shark after the monkey pox episode.

Amazing they dragged it on for 3 more seasons. I will watch to finish it but probably going to be pretty painful.

Problems in the e.r...
SimonSaysSmallScreen4 February 2022
Well, you let a bunch of actors run the e.r., you're bound to have some issues. So much time whining to each other about their families, lovers, apartments, pets... so much drama.

Finally, some action in the ER
polite-4569221 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Finally, some action in the ER. Kovac tried to be "the hero" and got what was coming.

Sam's ex-boyfriend was more willing to show initiative than anyone would have expected.

Neela's whining reached a new level. Her self-importance caused her to openly show hostility toward her father in law at her husband's funeral.
