A tear jerking episode of The Wire
blewis444416 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Everything really starts to unfold for the boys in this superb episode of televisions most intriguing show; The Wire. While Michael finds himself deeper in the game, Naymond, Randy and Dookie have to face the harsh reality that their lives the way they know them are about to change forever. All of these boys are incredible actors, but Randy's "conversation" with Carver at the end of the episode should give you "Where's Wallace?" level chills. Naymond's breaking down in the gym and Dookie's removal from Mr. Prez's class are also two incredibly emotional aspects of what is one of my favorite episodes of my favorite season; season 4.

Truly emotional

I sometimes find it even hard to realize that I actual feel for the 4 kids in this show. Randy, Namond, Michael, Dukie, they all feel so darn real. The emotional impact from Randy's daunting position, and Namond's dreadful realization of his well-being, provides for an impactful penultimate that I will never forget.

Emotionally-Affecting like nothing other on TV...

4.12 is yet another excellent episode of the fourth season. Here we have many story lines coming full circle...

Bubbles for a while now has really affected me... his storyline I mean. This episode just will drive him to the edge for sure. Also, the boys' performances have not been better than here. What the writers do so well is they are able to really take their time, so when blows like this happen, they don't come out of nowhere. Suspense is unbearable at times. A simple scene of Dookie at school or Randy at his house are enough to make us stand at the edge of our seat, and that is pretty magnificent in itself.

That s___ is unseemly

Carcetti wrestles with the mismanagement of the school budget whilst Randy, Namond, and Dukie suffer in different ways.

This is a typically brutal penultimate season episode with some haunting character moments.

It was a good decision that the writers included plenty of humour throughout the series run of The Wire or episodes like this might crush the spirit. They did such a remarkable job of getting me invested in the child characters, plus the likes of Bubs and Dennis, that watching this feels like George Pelecanos isn't just pulling on the heart's strings, but taking a Tommy-Gun to it like Sonny Corleone on the causeway.

I cannot give much detail without spoiling, except to further praise the intricacy of the plotting when it comes to connecting various characters and events. So much has led to the final moments of this episode.

Other characters have memorable scenes such as the murder detectives who are trapped between duty and politics in a truly bizarre and ironic situation. Wendell Pierce and Clarke Peters are on entertaining form.

Carcetti and Norman have great moments as they start to uncover how broken the systems of governance are and virtually impossible to fix without losing valuable support. Reg E. Cathey is another ray of sunshine emerging from the bleakness of it all.

Let's not forget Omar and his stickup crew who along with the likes of Proposition Joe and Cheese Wagstaff have an episode to remember. It makes me wish Cheese prioritised his son Randy's wellbeing as much as a drug shipment.

All actors are on great form, but for me the standouts are Julito McCullum, Andre Royo, Maestro Harrell, Michael K. Williams, and Aidan Gillen. Sandi McCree makes a short but impactful contribution as always.

Visually it is another great achievement in cinematic storytelling by the filmmakers. That final shot of Carver stays with you long after the credits roll.

Warning: Spoilers
That episode was just chilling. The closing scene was a haunting reminder of how relentlessly cold the streets of Baltimore are, and how that affects those who live there. There was another scene that had possibly the potential to be the best scene of the whole show, but they cut it short. Why, why, WHY? Sherrod OD'd on Bubbles' poisoned vial, and it was extremely obvious as soon as the scene started up. The camera spent an age focused away from him until Bubbles finally realised, after which we got to see barely any of his actual reaction? That was a really poor decision to cut that scene there because the acting was brilliant and it should've gone on longer. The acting across the board has been once again amazing, particularly from the young actors this episode. I mentioned Randy already, but Michael and Namond both also did great work. Michael has become very hard, and on the other hand it's hard to believe a punk like Namond is the son of one of Baltimore's coldest hitters. Omar looks like he may have angered pretty much all of West Baltimore and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a shootout next episode. The police department finally seems like it can get some actual police work done now with Daniels in a high position of power. Overall a lot happened in this episode and it had some really great moments. I just wish, and this goes for the entire show, that scenes weren't so short. They'd have much more of an impact if they lingered

Bubble's Revenge and then some

Warning: Spoilers
I don't want to give a spoiler, but this episode for him will be in total grief...*tear* I can understand his frustration from dealing with the neighborhood bully thief but he should have chosen a better method of getting back at that crackhead!

I am so in love with an intelligent thinking man. A smart detective is usually the one that most in his camp view as a bit cooky and skewed. Pay attention to the many revelations we'll receive in this show. I can't wait to watch the last two episodes!

Mike shows a new shade as well that was a bit shocking to me but not really. I feel his character was in the making of becoming a replacement character for the current leader. I may be wrong but I'm sure I'm kinda right about what's to come for the next season.
