A cigar to smoke indeed...

Warning: Spoilers
I've never had the pleasure of watching a proper short film. A short film, ranging from around 20 minutes, is usually present before watching a feature film. As a short film, A Cigar at the Beach makes for intriguing cinema art.

The premise for A Cigar at the Beach is simple enough: The Smoker, who visits Florida to see his sick father, turns the trip into a family vacation. Accompanied by his pregnant wife and iPod addicted step-son, The Smoker decides to solely withdraw to an empty beach. With cigar in hand, The Smoker begins to fantasize. With a nearby storm approaching, his fantasies thrust him to the very edge of himself, where he can finally find what he yearns for most. He isn't sure what this might be, but after searching in all the wrong places, that which he seeks, finds him. I am not sure what to make of the film.

Answers are not given once, and you're expected to conjure up your own ideas, which, in its own respect, help you identify with The Smoker. The mystery surrounding the film was echoed by the director, who was on hand to introduce the film.

A great introduction to short films, A Cigar at the Beach is bound to make you think, and ponder you with the thought: what is truly the most important aspect of your life.
