Although kids who grew up through the 80's may not make the connection, Cyclops is clearly based on the H.A.L. 9000 computer from "2001: a space odyssey (1968)." This is evident in a key piece of dialogue between General Ross and Cyclops. Ross says, "Can't anyone hear me? " Cyclops responds, "Affirmative General Ross, I hear you." In 2001, when Dave is outside the Discovery, he says, "Do you read me H.A.L.?" The response is, "Affirmative Dave, I read you."
Cyclops malfunctioning is a very loose connection as he doesn't do because of a contradictory program directive, but H.A.L. also malfunctions.
Banner deactivates Cyclops by removing components connected to his memory, and Dave deactivated H.A.L. the same way.
There is no final Hulk Out. Banner is able to defeat Cyclops without changing and causing destruction.
