We take another look back at the public information films put out by the Central Office Of Information...
I’m sat writing this on the balcony of my apartment overlooking the majestic Salford Quays. It’s a lovely afternoon and the sun is beating down as families, all dressed in their finest summer attire, chomp on ice-cream while enjoying a relaxing canal side stroll.

Down on the other side of the canal basin is a group of boys, maybe thirteen or fourteen years old (plus a few much younger ones), dressed in nothing but swimming trunks. They’re goading each other on to leap from the bridge into the dark waters below. One by one they take the plunge, all the while laughing and whooping.

There is something truly unique about the connection between Bruce Springsteen and his fans. Many artists have a loyal fan base that go to multiple shows and sing every word but only Bruce fans convene and are ready for a religious experience. Bruce is their preacher and the show leads them through songs about their lives; the good and the bad, their loves, losses and faith. Many say it seems when he sings that song that means the most to them, it is like they are the only person he is performing for amongst a sea of thousands. Strangers sing, dance and cry together. People of all ages become connected by the bond of music. It is no surprise that hundreds wait in line for hours, sometimes days before a show just to get as close to the stage as possible. I am a big fan of director Wes Anderson. I enjoy watching the films that he makes, which are filled with everything that makes for a great entertaining movie. Kees van Dijkhuizes has created another fun video compilation that takes us on a journey through the films of Anderson. The [the films of] series is a 12-part year long project in which van Dijkhuizen focuses on a different director’s style each month by creating a video montage of that director’s work.
The last in the video series was for director David Fincher, which you can watch here.
Films featured in the video include:
Bottle Rocket Rushmore The Royal Tenenbaums The Life Aquatic The Darjeeling Limited Fantastic Mr. Fox
As for the songs used we have:
Alexandre Desplat – “Kristofferson’s Theme” (from Fantastic Mr. Fox) The Kinks – “Strangers” The Beatles – “Hey Jude”...

[1] We've reached the end of one month and the start of another, which can only mean... well, actually, it means many things, but one of the things it means is that it's time for another "[the films of]" video by Kees van Dijkhuizen, whom we've featured here multiple [2] times [3] in the past [4]. "[the films of]" series is a yearlong, 12-part project by van Dijkhuizen in which he showcases a different director's style each month by creating a montage of that director's work. The latest installment is a love letter to the very distinctive Wes Anderson. Watch it after the jump. Films featured: Bottle Rocket Rushmore The Royal Tenenbaums The Life Aquatic The Darjeeling Limited Fantastic Mr. Fox Songs used: Alexandre Desplat - "Kristofferson's Theme" (from Fantastic Mr. Fox) The Kinks - "Strangers" The Beatles - "Hey Jude" As always, head over to van Dijkhuizen's Tumblr post [5] about the video to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the...

Andrea Arnold, from Fish Tank, Red Road and Wasp fame, will be hitting Wuthering Heights next, but she might be following that up with another original piece called The Cleaner. Peter Strickland (see pic above) who made waves last year with his film Katalin Varga, will be going to Italy for his next project - a horror film called who is developing The Berberian Sound Studio. - Thanks to the workaholic folks at thePlaylist for making this press release "more" public, as there are plenty of noteworthy projects in development mentioned in the UK Film Council from talented filmmakers who've yet to even mention these future films. While we are aware of what Winterbottom, Ramsay, Hirschbiegel and Terry Gilliam, there is some fresh stuff in here to be excited about. Here are a half dozen that are now on my radar, I've include the press release below or you...
