Egon was originally supposed to die in this episode; but to avoid making the cartoon too dark for young viewers, it was changed that he gets lost in the netherworld while technically remaining a ghost until he can be found. Coincidentally Harold Ramis who played Egon in the movies was the first actor that played a Ghostbusters to die.
