Adult Swim Order 'Harold & Kumar' Animated Pilot, Plus Projects From Dan Harmon & Seth Grahame-Smith
As part of the annual dog-and-pony show that is network up-fronts, where new series are trotted out before advertisers and press, Cartoon Network has revealed (via Hollywood Reporter) that they have ordered eight new pilots for its after hours Adult Swim programming block, and among them are a new series from "Community" creator Dan Harmon, an animated series based on the 'Harold & Kumar' franchise, and a project produced by "Dark Shadows"/"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" writer Seth Grahame-Smith.
The 'Harold & Kumar' animated project, which was announced back in November, will star John Cho and Kal Penn, reprising their roles as the aimless, White Castle-obsessed stoners, and will be overseen by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the screenwriters behind the film series (the last film, the brilliant, sadly marginalized "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas," came out last year). The 'Harold & Kumar' movies always had an exaggerated, more-than-slightly cartoony feel (in the last film,...

I've always thought that barbarian fantasy was ripe for the comedic plucking. In fact my favourite show that never was was Korgoth of Barbaria and I still cross my fingers it'll come back somehow. But now that Your Highness and Ronal the Barbarian are coming, who knows, maybe we'll get more hilarious fantasy riffage happening.
Synopsis:
Ronal is a young barbarian with low self-esteem, the polar opposite of all the muscular barbarians in his village. He's a real wuss. However, as fate would have it, responsibility for the tribe's survival falls on Ronal's scrawny shoulders, when the evil Lord Volcazar raids the village and abducts every living barbarian. With the exception of Ronal, who is forced to go on a perilous quest to save his enslaved clan and thwart Volcazar's plot to rule the world. Along the way, our unlikely hero is joined by Alibert the buttery bard, Zandra the...

When I interviewed Berke Breathed a few years back, I asked him if there would finally by a comprehensive Bloom County collection like the recently available Calvin & Hobbes and Peanuts volumes. Breathed was dismissive of the idea, claiming that no one wanted to read the strip, that it was no longer relevant, and it just wasn’t going to happen. Well, a few years have gone by,...
