While sailing to an island in the Caribbean Sea to close a business deal that will give their company broadband access throughout Asia, five friends—Joe (Marc Bacher), Alexis (Brianna Brown), Tom (Nick Mennell), Anna (Emily Baldoni), Chris (Hadley Fraser)—rescue a man drifting in the water and mumbling about turning the boat around. Later that night, the stranger secretly attempts to change the boat's course but winds up crashing it on submerged rocks. The boat quickly sinks, but the passengers are able to make it to the shore of a nearby island and radio the Coast Guard for help. While awaiting pickup, they begin to realize that they are not alone on the island, which is inhabited by an ancient tribe of humanoid creatures, known as "la tribu perdida" ("the lost tribe"), who may be the missing link between apes and humans.
The Lost Tribe is a remake of The Forgotten Ones (2009) (aka The Tribe), which was supposedly being released in the After Dark Horrorfest 2007. A trailer for the film was released, but things fell through. The whole film was subsequently re-shot, new characters were introduced, the title was changed from The Tribe to The Lost Tribe, and a whole new cast was bought on board. The original movie was released overseas in 2009 and its title has been changed to After Dusk They Come. The Lost Tribe was filmed from a screenplay by Mark E. Davidson.
Anna escapes the tribe's cave by jumping into an underground river and letting it carry her outside. With the creatures in pursuit, she runs to the scientific outpost where she retrieves the machete and attempts to climb up the vines surrounding the trunk of a tall tree. The creatures climb up after her until their weight pulls down the vines. Now on the ground and surrounded by the creatures, Anna attempts to fight back, but the Alpha male (Terry Notary) is too powerful, picking her up and tossing her around like a rag doll. On one of his attempts to show the other creatures his dominance, the Alpha leaps at Anna. Just in time, she holds up the machete, and he is impaled on it. Upon his death, the other creatures begin closing in on her. Anna picks up her machete and lets out a loud scream. The remaining creatures, realizing Anna's dominance, go off into the jungle. In the final scene, she buries Tom's ring in the sand and sets sail in a makeshift boat, leaving the island behind her.
