- All goes well when Hogan's gang steals Klink's code book from his safe, photographs the contents, and returns it to its proper place. But there's a small hitch - Carter forgets to load the camera with film.
- At the start, Newkirk is coming out of Klink's office with a book; LeBeau has a camera, and takes pictures of the pages in the book. This is apparently a new code book that they want information on. Klink comes out of his office and says that a code book is missing. Klink tells Schultz to frisk the men. Schultz starts searching the men. General Burkhalter then comes in with two Gestapo men in his staff car. Klink welcomes him, and asks about his wife. Burkhalter says that the visit is an official visit, not a social call. Schultz finishes searching Newkirk, and starts frisking Klink. He finds the code book in Klink's coat pocket (which apparently Newkirk sneakily put there). Burkhalter is displeased, and Burkhalter and Klink go to Klink's office.
Later, Hogan is in the tunnel, Kinchloe is on the radio. Hogan asks Carter how long to develop the film. Carter says that it will be in a few minutes, then looks at the camera and starts looking sick. Carter finds out that there is no film in the camera. They will need to try another way to get the information in the code book. Hogan comes up with an idea.
Burkhalter tells Klink that unusual things have been happening. There are strange radio transmissions originating in Germany, maybe from STALAG 13. The Gestapo shows Klink a signal finding device. It is turned on and points in a certain direction; Klink first says that it is pointing at the front gate, then says that this points to Hogan's barracks. Klink goes to the outer office, tells Schultz to tell Hogan to get rid of the transmitter. Klink is worried that if a transmitter is found, something nasty will happen to him.
Schultz goes to the barracks to tell this to Hogan, but can't get his words out. Hogan then sees Burkhalter, Klink, and Gestapo with a direction finding device, heading to the barracks. Hogan then quickly pulls the plug on the transmitter and pulls the switch that redirects the transmitter power. They go into the barracks looking for a transmitter, and the device points to a footlocker. Burkhalter tells Klink to open the footlocker. Hogan is standing in front of the footlocker; Klink tells Hogan to stand aside, and Hogan protests but moves aside. They open the footlocker and find a coffee pot, brewing coffee. Burkhalter and Klink argue, and then leave. Hogan mentions that the device is a good coffee pot finder.
Kinch comes out of the tunnel. Newkirk has an idea, but doesn't know it, to just tell Klink to trot out the code book. Hogan hears this, and comes up with an idea. He tells Carter to get the camera. Newkirk asks Kinch what he (as Klink) just said, and Kinch quoted him exactly, including the accent. Newkirk says that Hogan has gone crackers.
Hogan and Newkirk go to Klink's office; Carter and LeBeau bring lamps to use when taking pictures.. Hogan tells Helga to get on the phone to General Burkhalter. Hogan pretends to be Herr Ludwig Linkmeyer, sausage maker in Hammelburg. He claims that he has a code-book. Burkhalter says that he did not lose a code book, but knows the dumbkoff who did, so he gives Klink a call regarding the lost code book. Klink thinks that he did not lose the code book. Burkhalter wants Klink to make sure, so Klink opens the safe, pulls out Code Book G, and says that could not have lost the one that the man called about because he has his copy in his hand. While this is going on, Hogan is listening to the phone conversation through the door.
Hogan's men come into Klink's office, Hogan butters up Klink. Hogan says that the men call him 'Klink the Fink'; where FINK stands for 'Firm, Impartial. Nazi Kommandant'. Hogan asks Klink for pictures. Without Klink seeing it, LeBeau gets the code book and Hogan tells Klink to sit in his chair. Carter takes pictures, supposedly of Klink, but really of the code book that LeBeau is holding up next to Klink's head. With each picture, LeBeau turns the page of the book. Hogan keeps turning Klink's head so he does not see the code book that they are taking the pictures of.
Carter develops the film. Hogan wonders how they will send the code the England. While this is being done, bombers are heard dropping bombs. Hogan gets an idea. He asks Carter to make a phony bomb and plant it in the compound. The Germans will not have time to monitor the radio.
The next day, in the compound, Klink, Schultz, Burkhalter, and Hogan see the bomb stuck in the ground in the compound; at first it is not ticking, then Kogan gives it a kick and it starts ticking. Burkhalter is afraid that it might explode at any time. He tells Hogan that if he defuses the bomb, he can have anything. Hogan asks for three things. Klink says 'No' to all three; Burkhalter agrees to all three. Kinch comes out of the tunnel and tells Newkirk and LeBeau that a tunnel has collapsed. Carter is in the collapsed portion and could not get the phony bomb out. What it that that Hogan is working on in the compound? That is a REAL bomb.
Hogan, Klink, and Schultz start working on defusing the bomb. Hogan opens the access panel in the bomb, with Klink handing him the tools; he says that the Carter Manufacturing Company has outdone themselves. He tosses away one part like it was nothing. Kinch comes out of the barracks and wants to talk to Hogan; Hogan pauses the defusing to have a talk with one of his men. Hogan tells Kinch that he is working with a real live bomb. Kinch tells Hogan that that is exactly what it is, a real live bomb. He tells Hogan that a tunnel has collapsed, and Carter is still down there with the fake bomb. The bomb outside is real, and Carter is in a section of tunnel right below the bomb. Carter is under the real bomb. and won't leave until he finishes sending the code. So Hogan needs to defuse the bomb, fast.
Hogan goes back to the bomb. He is sweating, even though this is in the winter season. Hogan pulls out 2 wires, tells Klink and Schultz that the wires should not touch. Schultz fakingly tries to have the wire he is holding touch the wire that Klink is holding; Klink gets mad at Schultz for doing this.
At the end, Hogan, Klink, and Schultz are still working on the bomb. Hogan pulls out a fuse and two wires. He asks Klink for the wire-cutters. Hogan does not know which wire to cut. One will defuse the bomb, the other will set it off. Hogan asks Schultz which one to cut; Schultz says that this is a decision for an officer. Hogan then asks Klink which one to cut. Klink picks one; Hogan cuts the other. The bomb is successfully defused; Hogan tosses the wire-cutters down. Klink asks Hogan if he knew which wire to cut, why did he ask him? Hogan says that he did not know which one was the right one, but was certain that Klink would pick the wrong one.
