Hogan convinces Klink that FINK stands for firm, impartial, Nazi Kommandant.
In WWII the British, the Americans and the Germans frequently used delay action aerial bombs. These would have delays from a few seconds to a few weeks. Some were rigged to go off if anyone tried to move or defuse the bomb. Construction crews in London still unearth several unexploded German bombs every year.
When Col. Hogan is deciding whether to cut the black wire or the white wire on the bomb, he is using a Crestoloy model 942 diagonal cutter. It is stamped "Made In USA" and was manufactured by the Crescent Tool Company.
The name that Hogan gives to General Burkhalter in the phone call, Ludwig Linkmeyer, sausage maker, is the same last name as General Burkhalter's sister, Frau Linkmeyer.
When Hogan first looks into the real bomb, still thinking that it is a fake, he refers to the Carter Manufacturing Company.
