- Marcus orders Krista to deliver a bag to Vanessa, and Blade hunts the doctor who makes vaccine to vampires for Marvus.
- [INCONGRUITY: In 1.02 Death Goes On, Chase orders Krista to kill "him," seemingly referring to Blade, but Krista beheads Fritz instead. However, in the recap shots at the beginning of Descent, Chase specifically orders Krista to kill "Fritz".]
FBI Agent Ray Collins [Larry Poindexter] arrives at the scene of the Kansas state trooper's murder. Watching the patrol video, he sees a man biting the trooper's neck. Next to the car, he finds a fang. When he is alerted to the American Butcher incident in South Dakota, he begins to wonder whether there might be some connection and starts asking questions.
Krista is beginning to heal, helped by Marcus rubbing a bit of his own blood into the wound. When Krista is well enough to pay a nostalgic visit to her mother, she finds Blade waiting in a car outside the house. Blade warns Krista not to maintain ties with people from her human life lest Marcus catches on. He then asks her what she's learned about Fritz, and Krista tells him about the Aurora Project. Blade charges Krista with getting a sample of the vaccine. She tries several times to get into the lab where the Aurora vaccine is stored, but each time she is interrupted by Cress, one of Marcus's guards.
Marcus sends Krista on an errand to deliver a satchel to a woman named Vanessa. Marcus doesn't tell Krista what's in the bag, and Krista doesn't peek, much to Chase's disappointment because Chase doesn't like or trust Krista. Still, Marcus has charged Chase with grooming Krista and teaching her the ropes. So, the next night Chase takes Krista on a public kill. They pose as two members at an AA meeting where they meet two guys -- Theo and Chuck -- "the dregs no one will miss." Chase lures them into an alley where she drinks from Theo and kills Chuck by breaking his neck. Krista is saved from having to drink Chuck's blood when two other guys pass by and ask if they are all right.
Meanwhile, Blade has gotten a lead on a disfigured vampire named Sands who may have been one of Marcus's failed experiments. He tracks Sands to a casino and pulls from him the location of the experimental lab. Blade, Sands, and Shen break into the lab, but it looks deserted. Suddenly, they are attacked by a half-dozen or so vampire goons. Blade manages to destroy them all. In the rubble and ash that remains, Blade finds a scalpel with 10A06-PA67-8 engraved on the handle. Tracing the number on the Internet, Shen tracks it to the medical practice of Dr Jeffrey Vonner and Associates. When Blade crashes Vonner's office, however, he only finds a bunch of pregnant women.
A visit to the South Dakota crime lab has turned up some interesting findings for Agent Collins. The remains in the back of the American Butchers truck has turned out to be human ash. Prints found on the cab window have been identified as those of Detective Brian Boone. When Collins holds the vial containing the fang up to a window to take a better look, the fang suddenly disintegrates into ash. What is going on here?
