Very mixed feelings this time around...
TheLittleSongbird21 April 2012
Watching and absolutely loving My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, it prompted me after a long while to revisit My Little Pony: The Movie, End of Flutter Valley, Escape from Catrina and My Little Pony N Friends. So far, I've only seen the original movie and Escape from Flutter Valley. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed My Little Pony: The Movie, though it is not perfect, but was disappointed with this one. I did like the charming, whimsical score, and apart from Draggle and the bees the characters especially Spike and the ponies are likable. Megan I also like but I wish there was more of her. The voice acting is mostly solid, with the standouts being Charlie Adler, Nancy Cartwright(aka Bart Simpson) and Tress MacNeille, who had big shoes to fill after Cloris Leachman and still brought her fun, distinctive voice to the character. The animation however is inconsistent, the colours are beautiful and the backgrounds are mostly fluid, but there are some rough-around-the-edges character designs and various continuity errors such as colour changes even in the same scene, characters popping out of nowhere, an adult pony speaking Baby Cuddle's lines and mud disappearing. The dialogue is likewise, there are some sweet and mildly amusing moments along the way but the dialogue between the bees for example is more stupid than funny. I also could not stand Draggle's voice, frequently sounding as though she had a bad head cold. The songs were a slight improvement in terms of singing but forgettable otherwise for me. But the story was the biggest letdown, it felt thin, bland and was all over the place in terms of structure. All in all, very mixed feelings overall. 5/10 Bethany Cox
