Quotes

  • JR Ewing : Well, I just never thought I was gonna get off that phone. The word has spread from New York to California. See what happens when you try to do something nice for the people?

Miss Ellie Ewing : Is that why you did it, J.R.? For the people?

JR Ewing : No, Mama, I did it because it's good business.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : You did it so you could take over Ewing Oil!

Sue Ellen Ewing : Pamela, I thought we agreed to let our men run Ewing Oil.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : I'm sorry, Sue Ellen, but I can't sit quietly by while J.R. destroys Bobby with dirty tricks.

JR Ewing : Pamela, when it comes to the oil business, you're even less an expert than that unstable brother of yours.

  • [first lines]

Sue Ellen Ewing : [after emerging from swimming pool in one-piece swimsuit cut very low at the back]  It feels so good being back at Southfork. Just like old times.

[picks up towel from lounge chair]

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Well, it's better because we're friends now. It makes a big difference.

    [smiles]

Sue Ellen Ewing : Everything's different. J.R. and I have a real understanding this time.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : What kind of understanding?

Sue Ellen Ewing : To change the way we were. To be more like, uh, you and Bobby. Make a real commitment to one another.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : So you're behind him all the way?

Sue Ellen Ewing : Of course. And I know that's how you are with Bobby. It doesn't have to change our relationship.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Oh, I hope not, Sue Ellen. But it's gonna be difficult. They both want Ewing Oil.

Sue Ellen Ewing : Well, at least it will be a fair fight. J.R. has changed, Pam.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : You really believe that?

Sue Ellen Ewing : [nods]  Yes, I do.

    [smiles]

Sue Ellen Ewing : I have to.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Why don't we change? To help Miss Ellie with the invitations.

Sue Ellen Ewing : [nods]  The Ewing barbecue.

    [smiles]

Sue Ellen Ewing : I almost forgot.

  • Bobby Ewing : I might just beat J.R., with or without his variance!

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Bobby, you know I'm behind you, no matter what... but I'm starting to be frightened by what this might turn into.

  • Bobby Ewing : Pam, I think I may lose.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : Well, that's not what you said to J.R.

Bobby Ewing : I know, but he's come up with the perfect formula for winning: He pumps a lot of oil. He turns it over fast in his own gas stations. He doesn't show much profit per barrel, but he makes up for it in volume. Honey, at the end of the year, his half of the company is going to show enormous revenues.

Pamela Barnes Ewing : But the Energy Commission ruled against him.

Bobby Ewing : Well, they'll have to overturn their ruling. I mean, how can they come out against low prices?
