- A career felon and his mechanically-skilled younger brother stage a series of armed robberies using a supercharged roadster as their getaway car.
- Ex-con Harry Burke and his brother Tommy (a skilled mechanic and sometime stock car racer) stage a series of armed robberies, using a hand-built supercharged roadster to escape pursuing Highway Patrol officers. When one of their getaways results in the hit-and-run death of an innocent woman, Dan Mathews and Officers Dorsey and Larrabee redouble their efforts. They obtain assistance from Bert Case, the head of the local hot rod club, to determine who may have a car fitting the description of the Burkes' roadster. They also prepare to establish roadblocks quickly so that they will be in position to intercept the Burkes if they strike again. When the Burkes commit another holdup, they are unaware that Dan and Officer Dorsey have already eliminated the other possible suspects and are headed for the Burkes' home, where an armed confrontation becomes inevitable.—Sam Spear
- Burke brothers Harry and Tommy review plans for a restaurant armed robbery by Harry with Tommy outside waiting in his hot-rod capable of 130 mph. Harry was cooling his heels in the state penitentiary for past few years while Tommy was building a fast car funded by Harry.
The robbery is pulled at Chuck's Grill, twenty-thousand taken, sizeable amount due to payroll cashing for factory workers in the area. Tommy takes off with brother Harry, a HP chases, not able to catch the speeding car, Officer Larrabee calls in the plate number, identifying the car. The Burke's are in their driveway, away from the law, Harry removes the fake plates.
Dan gets the lowdown on the robbery, the getaway car, stolen plates, too. He speculates a car like the one described will repeat robberies, alerting the HP of the vehicle description. The car is an eight cylinder, dual quads are clearly visible with twin chrome air filters with near-straight pipes; no charger attached.
Another robbery, this one at Earl's Café, Dan is on the way, meets up with Earl Davis, owner, he describes robber as an adult with a cloth over his face; car sounded like a racing car. There was seventeen thousand taken, a large sum on hand for payroll checks of the local plant workforce.
Tommy is speeding down the road where a man is changing a tire while a woman watches from the road. Tommy runs her over, does not hesitate to slow down, she is dead, as her body lies in the spot where struck. Dan gets the call of the hit-run, Larrabee says she was dead instantly, the husband describes the little black fancy roadster, two men in the car, no plate number seen. Larrabee says the description of the vehicle is the same as outrunning him. An APB goes out describing the car, no luck with the cars sited so far, Dorsey says payday for several factories tomorrow in the area, a perfect time for another robbery.
Dan wants to save time checking with the local hot rod organization head, Bert Case, for anyone buying supercharge equipment. One of three names on Bert's list of buyers is Tom Burke.
Another robbery takes place, Larrabee begins chase of the hot rod, Harry Burke shoots at Larrabee's car, telling Tom to go faster, the officer returns fire from his speeding car. Dan and Dorsey pull into a suspect driveway, see the cover over the hot rod, the radio has Larrabee calling in his chase with shots fired. It cannot be the rod they are seeking, the other car is in the clear, that leaves Burke. Burke's avoid stopping for a roadblock, shots fired by the roadblock Officer, calling in the vehicle's direction. Burke's arrive home, Tom turns the car around, Harry heads to the house for the money.
Dan and Dorsey pull into the Burke driveway, Harry draws his gun and fires, HP returns fire hitting Harry, he is down, Dorsey cuffs Tommy, Dorsey says we need an ambulance or coroner, Dan says he'll call it in, Dan puts Tommy in the backseat.
