Drinking the home brew
Writer Roy Clarke's computer must have broken down. He did not knock out his standard script in some kind of auto mode which he has been doing since some time after Foggy first left the series.
Compo is worse for wear and gets a shock when he sees Nora Batty's girdle on the washing line. Does anyone care for the poor viewers? Foggy meanwhile visits the doctor. His head hurts when he stands to attention.
It seems they are hungover after drinking too much home brew at a funeral tea. The question is what has happened to Clegg? After complimenting on the buns at the said funeral Clegg has been clutched by an amorous widow and she will not let go of him.
Compo and Foggy have a plan and it involves getting Smiler to wear a tuxedo and going to a dance where they plan to get the said widow to go for someone taller. They have also told Smiler that they plan for him to stop lodging at Nora's.
It is just a shame that Smiler is not the only told person at the dance.
The episode stands out because Clarke for a change puts away some of his lazy tropes. Maybe he was drinking the home brew himself which gave him a burst of creativity.
