Morgan Brittany: Katherine Wentworth
Quotes
-
Cliff Barnes : I am so close to oil I can taste it. I just haven't hit yet.
Katherine Wentworth : [taunting gleefully] Oil, oil everywhere! But not a drop for Cliff!
-
Jackie Dugan : [over intercom] Cliff, she's here.
Cliff Barnes : [in usual brusque manner] Send her in.
[Jackie ushers in Katherine]
Cliff Barnes : You're late, I thought you forgot.
Katherine Wentworth : I do have other interests in life besides bailing out Cliff Barnes.
Cliff Barnes : Uh, Jackie, get Leo Wakefield up here.
Jackie Dugan : I'll see if he's still in the office.
Cliff Barnes : [closes door behind Jackie] You got the check?
[used very sharp tone]
Katherine Wentworth : Of course I've got the check. Let me see the papers.
Cliff Barnes : [places forms in front of her on the desk] There we both sign.
Katherine Wentworth : [annoyed] Do you mind if I look at them first?
Cliff Barnes : [shakes his head] No. Go ahead, look. It's a one-page agreement.
Katherine Wentworth : [checks quickly, gives little sigh] All right, fine. You can sign.
Cliff Barnes : [signs impatiently] You sign below, accepting.
[she signs]
Cliff Barnes : Give me the check.
Katherine Wentworth : [hands it over] Eighteen million dollars.
Cliff Barnes : [takes it] Okay. You finally got what you want. I'm out of your father's company.
Katherine Wentworth : That's right.
[rises]
Katherine Wentworth : And it's just the first in a long line of scores I'm gonna settle.
[heads for the door, leaves office]
Cliff Barnes : Jackie!
Jackie Dugan : Mr. Wakefield is here.
Cliff Barnes : [hands over check] There you go, Leo. Our problems are over.
Leo Wakefield : You hit oil?
Cliff Barnes : No, not yet, but I got enough money to keep drilling. That's eighteen million dollars.
Leo Wakefield : Then your problems aren't over for long.
Cliff Barnes : Why? That will keep us drilling for a few weeks.
[chuckles]
Cliff Barnes : We gotta hit oil by then.
Leo Wakefield : You're forgetting one thing. Not only are the interest payments on your loans coming up... but the first principal payment is due.
Cliff Barnes : [softly] So soon?
Leo Wakefield : Yes, sir. Comes to a little over ten million dollars. You took a one-year loan with repayments structured in monthly increments. What's left of this will give you... another week's drilling... maybe a little more. After that it's back to square one, Mr. Barnes.
[turns to leave]
-
Pamela Barnes Ewing : I wanted to talk to you about the letter.
Katherine Wentworth : The letter? What letter?
