We Were Here and Flushed have scooped the nominations for the West Australian Screen Awards.
The West Australian Screen Awards celebraes excellence and achievements in feature film, short film, web series, music videos, television production, documentary, games and interactive productions.
Short drama We Were Here, directed by David Vincent Smith and produced by Joshua Gilbert and Simon Camp, earned six nominations, the most for the awards.
Short comedy Flushed, directed and produced by Richard Eames, also received six nominations.
ABC comedy TV series The Legend of Gavin Tanner, written and directed by Matt Lovkis and Henry Inglis and produced by Lauren Elliott received five nominations, as did short drama Sol Bunker, produced by Glen Stasiuk and directed by Nathan Mewett.
Film and Television Institute Wa (Fti) chief executive, Paul Bodlovich, said the WASAs were one of the most important events on the cultural calendar in Western Australia.

Producer Lisa Duff has joined Screen Australia as investment development manager, documentaries.
She succeeds Mary-Ellen Mullane, who started two weeks ago as senior commissioning editor at Sbs.s National Indigenous Television (Nitv).
Duff has worked on features, TV dramas and documentaries for 15 years. Most recently she produced with Greg Duffy Last Cab to Darwin, Jeremy Sims. road movie drama starring Michael Caton, Jacki Weaver, Emma Hamilton and Ningali Lawford-Wolf; and Anupam Sharma.s Unindian, a romantic comedy featuring Tannishtha Chatterjee and Brett Lee in his first lead role.
Icon will release Last Cab, the saga of a taxi driver who is told he doesn.t have long to live and embarks on an epic drive from Broken Hill to Darwin to die on his own terms, in August.

ScreenWest has issued a national and international call for scripts to be developed as a debut feature for Western Australian directors.
The aim is to find well-developed projects for each of three directors in the agency.s 2014-15 Feature Navigator initiative.
Mike Hoath, Maziar Lahooti and Robert Forsyth will participate in the innovative development program designed to progress the careers of Wa directors through skills development and identifying and developing a debut feature film project.

The film is based on Reg Cribb play.s Last Cab to Darwin, which in turn was inspired by the cases of Max Bell and Bob Dent.
Bell was a terminally ill cab driver who drove 3,000 km from his home in Broken Hill to Darwin in the early 1990s in hopes of taking advantage of the Northern Territory's voluntary euthanasia laws. Dent was the first Australian to die from a legal, voluntary lethal injection in the Northern Territory in 1996.

Stephen Van Mil.s Impian Films will produce The Damned, a film based on the true story of two Western Australian teenagers who murdered a girl they had befriended.
Reg Cribb has written the screenplay based on his 2011 play. Andrew Lewis, who directed the play for the Black Swan State Theatre Company, will make his feature directing debut.
Lewis is associate professor at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts at Edith Cowan University. Cribb and Lewis received development funding from Screen West before Van Mil became involved.
Van Mil describes the subject as .confronting,. viewing it as an essay on disaffected young people.

ScreenWest has announced sci-fi project These Final Hours, by writer/director Zak Hilditch and producer Liz Kearney, will receive $750,000 in funding from the West Coast Visions initiative, designed to support emerging filmmakers.
These Final Hours is an apocalyptic thriller that follows James, who “while making his way to the party to end all parties on the last day on Earth, ends up saving the life of a little girl searching for her father, who ultimately leads him on the path to redemption.”
