HBO’s new rapture drama The Leftovers drew a solid (but far from spectacular) 1.8 million viewers in its Sunday debut — but how many of those potential believers will flock to Episode 2 next week? (TVLine readers gave the super-sized — and unabashedly bleak — opener a lukewarm B-.)
Leading into The Leftovers, the sex-tacular second episode of True Blood‘s final season averaged 3.1 million viewers, down 25 percent from the 4 million that turned out for last week’s premiere.

“The trick is to stay alive long enough to cash out,” Steve Buscemi’s Nucky Thompson muses in a new teaser for Boardwalk Empire‘s final season. Of course, that might be easier said than done.
Related Boardwalk Empire Adds a Drifter in Season 5
HBO on Sunday aired this chilling first look at Season 5 — premiering in September — and if the uneasy cover of Three Dog Night’s “One (Is the Loneliest Number)” is any indication, Bucky won’t find himself with too many allies when the prohibition drama comes to a close.

In the harrowing first moments of The Leftovers, a young mother straps her baby into his car seat, turns around, and that’s it — he’s gone. Vanished. Disappeared along with 2 percent of the world’s population. Where did everybody go? And why? When we pick up the action three years after that fateful October 14, those mysteries remain unsolved. But at least this recap of the breathtakingly bleak HBO series’ debut may be able to answer a few questions for you…

What the hell, The CW? Six episodes back after a two month mid-season break and now The Vampire Diaries is taking another month off?
Ok, let's see if we can't make this last episode count. We pick up the morning after the Mikaelson Family Ball. Elena wakes up and places a call to Stefan, who's busy writing in his Vampire Diary. He sends her to voice mail so she calls Damon. It's more of their usual angsty just-bang-already back and forth but at least Damon gives us a nice armpit flash. So that's something.
Half-naked Damon escorts Rebekah, whose dress is in remarkable shape for having been ripped off her last episode, to the door only to find Elena on the porch. This leads to Elena wondering if Rebekah compelled him into bed. It also leads to round 137 of angsty back and forth, which culminates in Damon's laughable claim that...

There was a time when one person could reasonably hope to assemble a more or less complete collection of TV horror and dark fantasy. That time is long past. The only way to do so now would be to make it a sort of lifes work. So the question is what are you going to collect and why? Vampire Diaries makes a strong case for inclusion in any sort of comprehensive vampire collection. Beyond that the show seems mainly a diversion for the Twilight crowd. Whatever the strengths of the first season they seem to be considerably diluted in the second. But worth checking out in any case.
Two vampire brothers, one good one not so much, find themselves obsessed by Elena, a lookalike of thier ancient former love. Taking place in Mystic Falls Va the show takes ample opportunity of the setting its in and actually manages to, in its first season anyway,...

Dear Vampire Diary,
The second episode of The Vampire Diaries means twice the angst, twice the sexiness and because both Stefan and Elena get to narrate, twice as many pretentious voiceovers as Grey's Anatomy. It's kind of like if Meredith Grey were in love with a boy version of herself.
However, all their staring and brooding and allegedly "epic" romance is dull, even when they share their diary entries before having a passionate kiss. In the words of Meredith Grey, "Seriously?"...
