The Fruitties set out on a long journey by balloon, and after many adventures they land in a forest. There they find a grumpy plant, who won't allow the caterpillars to climb up onto his leaves. Pak tries to persuade him to be kind to the caterpillars, since eventually they turn into beautiful butterflies.

Roly tells a harmless fib, and soon the word in the village is that his stories can't be trusted. Upset, he heads off into the forest to get away from it all, and while he's there, one unlikely thing after another happens to him. When he gets back to the village, everybody thinks he's made it all up. It takes a set of photos to prove that it's all true..

One day, Mr Strawberry decides he's too old to carry on being mayor, and resigns. Kumba suggests that the Fruitties should have a election, but the only candidate to step forward is Roly, who is duly elected. The excitement wears off as he finds out that being mayor means getting up early, going to meetings, and an endless series of obligations.

Pak sets out with Kumba, Roly and Thorny on a scientific expedition, whose aim is to bring samples of water from rivers, lakes and seas. They risk their lives in a thousand and one adventures, and all for the sake of science. But when they get back to the village they find it was all one of Mr Strawberry's whims.

Roly's birthday is drawing near, and nobody in the village seems to remember. Apparently, even his closest friends have forgotten all about it. Roly feels hurt, and goes to the forest to brood - why is everyone behaving this way? In the end he finds out: it's all a set-up to hide preparations for a surprise party...

Mr Strawberry discovers that the mud beside the river is seriously polluted. He tells Pak and his team (Kumba, Roly and Thorny) to investigate the caverns where the river has its source, and find out what's causing the problem. They discover that it's one of Monus the monkey's tricks - he wants to bury them alive in the caves!

Roly travels back in time, and gets to meet his great-great-grandparents while they were still a pair of young lovebirds. He has to ensure that they get married - otherwise the course of history may change, and he will never come into existence! But before he succeeds he must thwart the plans of an evil pretender.

When they find their own beaches full to capacity, our friends take a trip to Pirate Island. However the grumpy pirate doesn't like visitors, and takes them prisoner. They manage to escape, but back at the village they find that the other Fruitties can't wait to visit this exciting island. Meanwhile Roly saves Artichoke from marauding Indians. To show his gratitude, he presents Roly with a statuette, and throws his island open to the Fruitties, offering the pirate ship as a ferry to bring them there.

Roly is fed up of his friends: all they seem to think about is work! He feels so lonely that he decides to seek out a new life somewhere far away. He boards Remolacho's ship to cruise the seas as a pirate - but it isn't long before he's missing his pals. Eventually, he realizes that a little hard work isn't half as bad as being away from your friends, and sets off home again.

Roly decides to set up a business looking after people's pets. After some disastrous first attempts he takes charge of a wolf cub. The two get along so well that Roly is quite upset when the cub's parents come to take it away. The other Fruitties cheer up him, and they explain that an animal can never be a toy.

Roly falls in love with a Remolachyn Monroe, a star of the silver screen. He writes her hundreds of letters, and even goes on TV, but she pays him no attention whatsoever. Poor Roly feels very down. Kumba and Pak try to help. Through Butch they meet the star, but all she will do is send Roly a signed photo. This photo never makes it to its destination, because a heavy snowfall covers the Fruittie village and traps everyone inside their houses. While this freak weather lasts Roly discovers another movie star, and falls in love again... soon Remolachyn is just a faint memory.

Earthquakes strike the village of the Fruitties: Mr Strawberry is worried, and sends our friends down into the catacombs to find what's causing these unheard-of events. The evil Monus is behind it all, and our friends must confront him to regain control. But something isn't right - is it all for real? Or is it just one of Roly's dreams...

Thorny is expecting a visit from his cousin. What he doesn't know is that she is planning to capture one of the very last surviving mammoths, and take it away to the zoo she works for. And then there are the hunters who have their own designs on the poor shaggy beast... Will Roly and Thorny rescue the mammoth from a double dose of danger?
