60 years old? Who cares!? He's still Awesome!
I've been a Trower fan for over 30 years. I've been to concerts in 77, 87, 88, 94, 97, 99, and most recently this summer, 06. I've seen many different lineups he has used over the years, Jimmy Dewar (RIP) on vocals is still the best, but the man himself (Trower), has never been better than now (in my opinion). This is a reunion of his late 80's band mates: Davey Pattison is solid on vocals, Dave Bronze is fantastic on bass, & Pete Thompson keeps it all tight on drums. This DVD was recorded on his 60th birthday at "Harmonie" in Bonn Germany during the Rockpalast Crossroads Festival March 9th 2005. At 13 songs, the set list is strong, starting out with the classic rocker "Too Rolling Stoned", then moving into a few of his newer tunes from his most recent CD's. Track 5 slows things down a notch with another classic and a favorite of mine "Daydream". What a great tune! The soul just oozes from the TV & speakers. Track 6 is the title track from the "Living out of time" CD/DVD. Then we get a treat, track 7 "Breathless", Robin himself takes on the vocals. He has a very soulful voice and has displayed it before on an all blues CD in '97, "Someday Blues" and various CD tracks since then. From here it's on to "Day of the Eagle" which slides right into "Bridge of Sighs" his most famous, and most popular work. The next tune "Close every door" is only available here, it's not on any CD's. The bonus material contains a great interview and photo gallery. All in all, if you're a fan like me, you'll love it and must own a copy. But for young people who love great guitar work, and have never seen/heard of Robin Trower, check it out. The man can FLAT OUT PLAY!
