NEW YORK -- The IFP awarded five emerging filmmakers cash awards for their projects Thursday, capping an IFP Filmmaker Conference filled with indie production deals and such speakers as Bob Berney, Daniel Battsek, Jonathan Sehring, Micah Green and Ted Sarandos. At the awards ceremonies -- hosted by Giancarlo Esposito at Chinatown Brasserie -- there was a tie for the IFP Market Emerging Narrative Screenplay Award. Sean Patrick McCarthy (Pansy) and Scott Teems (I Hate to See That Evening Sun Go Down) each took home $5,000. The Fledgling Fund's Award for Socially Conscious Documentaries doled out $10,000 to Yoruba Richen (Promised Land), and its Award for Emerging Latino Filmmakers gave $10,000 to Vivien Lesnick Weisman (The Man of Two Havanas). The IFP Market Documentary Completion Award gave $5,000 and $25,000 in in-kind services to Julie Checkoway (Waiting for Hockney).
