This was the first episode of "Dark Shadows" to be telecast in color.
This is the first episode of Dark Shadows produced in color.
With the changeover from black and white taping to color taping, a new color opening was filmed. Instead of the show's title just simply superimposed over the images, it now waves superimposed over the montage of ocean waves, only freezing once the shot of Collinwood appears. Also, while the sound of waves is still heard, the sound of the howling of winds is no longer heard. This would be the opening used for the rest of the series. Also, the switch to color ended the inclusion of location footage, which had been filmed with black and white film; the only location shots used for the remainder of the series were color slides of the various structures and the moon in the sky etc..
Most day-time programs, such as "Dark Shadows", changed to color broadcasting more gradually than prime-time programs. Beginning in September 1966 in the United States, all new programs in prime time tended to be broadcast in color (there were select few programs that were broadcast in color prior to this). This first color episode of "Dark Shadows", recorded at the end of July 1967, was aired on Friday, 11 August 1967.
