The power is still there.
The first scene is worth the price of admission alone. The whole episode is fast, frenetic, and not really as predictable as they might lead you to first believe. Infusing a patient with your own feelings is probably quite common in hospitals - after all, it happens every day in real life, it's one tried and true way of relating to an individual. But this first show of the new season is so typical of what these people - actors, writers, designers, lighting crew - create each week. There has never been another medical show like this. And when these last original episodes finally exit NBC, those of us who have spent a great amount of time recruiting viewers - sometimes with chloroform and vallium, sometimes with nothing more than a shovel to the head - will be able to look into each others eyes and see the unspoken love for a hospital and staff that never really existed. Except in our minds.
