In this final episode of the first season, we see both Trisha and Benny getting grief - Trisha from her older sister constantly winding her up, and Mr Mitchell giving her another telling-off for wearing nail varnish in school; and Benny for being hounded by Doyle and his cowardly cronies.
They both decide enough is enough, and separately bunk off school on the same day by walking out. Mr Mitchell is concerned by the reason for their absence - and decides to look into it. But where could they be?
It's clever here how both pupils are equally fed-up for different reasons, and we can definitely feel their pain. They both feel they have no one to turn to, and just think that being away from the school will make their problems disappear.
Once again Doyle's racist language would make this episode unbroadcastable in these more enlightened times - it's quite a shock that this kind of terminology was ever acceptable anywhere, let alone on children's TV.
But all in all a thoughtful episode that shows us a bit more about Trisha and Benny's characters - especially when the chips are down.
