Benny finds 50p on the way to school - half of what he needs for the down-payment on the school trip. The new headmaster, Mr. Llewellyn introduces consuming changes, including a rename of the forms. To start with, no-one can find the right room. Trisha makes a new friend: Cathy Hargreaves, who explains she lives with her mother and her mother's boyfriend. In Mr. Mitchell's absence to sort out the disagreement over the form room, Tucker and Benny balance chairs as high as they can - they tumble down as the new Headmaster comes in, smashing a window in the process. Grange Hill loses the first inter-school football match, and in the changing rooms the team argue about who was to blame. One of the boys realises he has lost 50p and all the boys turn out their pockets. Benny's shiny coin is revealed to Mr. Baxter who recalls that Benny was the last out of the changing room. At Benny's house, his mum and dad stand up for Benny, angry that their son is being accused of theft. The next day, Benny finds that mud sticks - no-one wants to play with him on the team. He tells Mr. Baxter he doesn't want to play anyway and walks off...
