- Matt Parkman: How can you want to kiss me?
- Janice Parkman: [in her thoughts] You're my hero. Don't you know that?
- [out loud]
- Janice Parkman: Hey, you are everything that I want.
- Hiro Nakamura: A trip to Japan?
- Charlie: I don't care if you don't believe me. Just please tell me you'll go.
- Hiro Nakamura: Only one ticket?
- Charlie: [holds up second ticket] Just in case you said yes.
- [in the past, Hiro makes a call to his office]
- Yamagato Employee: [in Japanese] Yamagato Industries.
- Hiro Nakamura: [in Japanese] Ando Masahashi, please.
- Yamagato Employee: [in Japanese] Okay.
- Past Tokyo Hiro: [in Japanese] Hello?
- Hiro Nakamura: [in Japanese] Ando, I need your help.
- [cut to Hiro's office]
- Past Tokyo Hiro: [in Japanese] I'm sorry, Ando is sick. This is Hiro Nakamura. Can I help you?
- [cut back to Hiro in the diner; Hiro hangs up abruptly]
- Hiro Nakamura: [in English] Great Scott...
- Hiro Nakamura: You still do want to go?
- Charlie: Yeah, oh yeah, no it's not that it's just um... ever since I met you, I don't know, you just make me so happy.
- Hiro Nakamura: You make me happy too.
- Charlie: Well it's more than that. I don't let people get very close. There's a blood clot in my brain, inches away from an aneurism. I'm dying.
- Hiro Nakamura: But... , I'm supposed to save you.
- Charlie: You did, you did. Before you got here I decided to give up. But you have made me feel more alive and more full of joy than I could ever have imagined. Hiro... aishiteru yo.
- ["I love you", in Japanese]
- [first lines]
- Mohinder Suresh: [narrating voice over] To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose. The Earth spins at a thousand miles an hour as we desperately try to keep from being thrown off. Like the first blush in winter, that signals a great migration. Was there any warning of their arrival? A sign, a single event that set this chain into motion? Was it a whisper in God's ear? Survive. Adapt. Escape. And if we could mark that single moment in time, that first hint of the prophecy of approaching danger... would we have done anything differently? Could it have been stopped? Or was the die long ago cast? And if we could go back, alter its course, stop it from happening... would we?
- [last lines]
- [after returning to the present time after failing to protect Charlie]
- Hiro Nakamura: I loved her.
- Matt Parkman: License and registration.
- Eden McCain: Oh, this isn't my car, I kinda stole it.
- Matt Parkman: Can you take your glasses off for me, please?
- [Eden does so. Matt sees a bottle of liquor in the passenger seat]
- Matt Parkman: I'm gonna have to ask you to step out of the car.
- Eden McCain: No, I don't feel like it.
- Matt Parkman: That wasn't a suggestion.
- Eden McCain: Well here's a suggestion. Why don't you go get back in your car and eat a dozen donuts. That is what you cops like to do, right?
- Matt Parkman: I said, step out of the car. Now.
- Eden McCain: I think you really want to eat some donuts.
- Hiro Nakamura: You speak Japanese very quickly.
- Charlie: Lately I've just been able to remember everything.
- Hiro Nakamura: You have power. Big memory. It will only get stronger in the future.
- Charlie: The future. Right, I keep forgetting that's where you came from.
- Hiro Nakamura: My name is Hiro Nakamura... I am here to save your life!
- Sheriff: Hey Charlie! Charlie, come on over here and blow out the candle.
- Charlie: Hold that thought, okay? I just got to make a wish. Come on.
- Sheriff, Waitress Lynette: Come on.
- Hiro Nakamura: Pretty please, listen. It's very important.
- Sheriff: Say cheese.
- Sylar: [to Chandra] When I was a kid... I used to wish some stranger would come and tell me my family wasn't really my family. Oh, they weren't bad people, they were just... insignificant. And I wanted to be different. Special. I wanted to change. A new name, a new life. The watchmaker's son... became a watchmaker. It is so... futile. And I wanted to be... important.
- Nathan Petrelli: [presents Peter with shoes for his Graduation of Nursing School gift] Ladies' ten and a half!
- Peter Petrelli: Oh, you know, the reason I became a nurse was to wear shoes like this, thank you very much.
- Nathan Petrelli: Can I get a drink?
- Peter Petrelli: Yeah, yeah. Just right inside.
- Heidi Petrelli: I told him it wasn't funny.
- Sylar: You're broken.
- Brian Davis: What?
- Sylar: Suresh was right. It's so clear now. How it all works, pieces fitting together. It *is* in the brain.
- Brian Davis: So you can help.
- Sylar: [picking up a stone, with which to brain him] Don't worry, Brian. I can fix it. It's an evolutionary *imperative*!
- Hiro Nakamura: I teleported. Forward. Backward. But I couldn't save her. I couldn't save Charlie.
- Ando Masahashi: So, try again!
- Hiro Nakamura: It won't work. This power, it's bigger than me. I can't change the past. No matter how hard I wish. I failed.
- Gabriel Gray: Can I help you?
- Chandra Suresh: I hope so, Mr. Gray.
- Gabriel Gray: [looking at Chandra's watch] I can fix it.
- Chandra Suresh: My watch isn't broken.
- Gabriel Gray: Actually it is.
- [Chandra takes off his watch and gives it to Gabriel, who listens to the watch]
- Gabriel Gray: The self winding coil is loose, your watch is running 2 seconds slow.
- Chandra Suresh: How did you know?
- Gabriel Gray: Just a talent I have for the way things work, how the parts should go.
- Chandra Suresh: [to Gabriel Gray]
- [Sylar]
- Chandra Suresh: I came to find you, Gabriel. My name is Chandra Suresh. I'm a geneticist. I have a theory about human evolution, and I believe you are a part of it.
- [hands him book]
- Chandra Suresh: Read it, if you'd like to talk more, I've written my phone number and address inside.
- Jackie Wilcox: Major developments. Laurie Trammel skanked her way through the entire football team.
- Claire Bennet: Who told you that?
- Jackie Wilcox: The entire football team.
- Hiro Nakamura: [in Japanese] Six months? I've got to get back. If I teleport again I could end up anywhere. Lunch for a T-rex! I'm stuck!
- Charlie: [in English] Birthday cake?
- Hiro Nakamura: [in English] Happy birthday.
- Peter Petrelli: [to his Mother, regarding his Father] Listen, I did this without his blessing, and without his money. Okay, so I think it's only right that we celebrate without him.
- Chandra Suresh: The brain controls every human action; voluntary or involuntary. Every breath, every heartbeat, every emotion. If the soul exists, scientifically speaking... it exists in the brain.
- Noah Bennet: [to Eden] You know, with your ability, you can get anything you want. Created your own morality; there's not a person in the world that could say no to you. Now there is.
- Nathan Petrelli: My brother Peter, the hospice nurse. Can you believe it? It's just...
- Heidi Petrelli: Oh, it's a perfect fit. He's selfless and empathic.
- Nathan Petrelli: He's self-centered and righteous. Self-righteous.
- Micah Sanders: [Micah opens a present to find a laptop computer] Wow!
- Niki Sanders: That's a very generous gift, Hal.
- Hal Sanders: Oh, it's amortized over ten birthdays.
- D.L. Hawkins: Well, then, you skimped.
- [Hal laughs a little nervously]
- Micah Sanders: Thanks, Grandpa!
- Hal Sanders: It's my pleasure, young man, now go break the Internet in half or something.
- Janice Parkman: I don't know why you don't just tell them the truth.
- Matt Parkman: Yeah, I'll just waltz in there and tell them I can barely read, half the words I see backwards. There's a good career move.
- Nathan Petrelli: [to Peter] Dad's dead. He had a heart attack this morning. We should take comfort in the fact that he didn't know his sons were about to stab him in the back.
- Hal Sanders: If you're trying to ask me for something, it's already yours. It's a man's God-given right to dote on his grandson.
- Sylar: [to Chandra] I'm different now. I feel I've been given a chance to start over. A new life, a new identity. A new purpose.
- Mohinder Suresh: [narrating voiceover] This list. You found them. These people, their future is written on their D.N.A. Just as the past, it seems, is written in stone.
- Claire Bennet: [to Mr. Bennett] I have something I have to tell you.
- Mohinder Suresh: [narrating voiceover] Was the die cast from the very beginning? Or is it in our own hands to alter the course of destiny? Of all our abilities, this free will that truly makes us unique. With it, we have a tiny, but potent, chance to deny fate. And only with it can we find our way back to being human.
