This documentary opens with the incident involving a thirteen-year-old boy named Amir Legaza who returned from school to help his mother, Pili, with the household chores on August 30, 2002. He swept their mud hut as she was preparing an evening meal over an open fire. Amir dozed off to the familiar sound of his mother husking the corn outside by the light of an oil lamp. He woke to find her bed empty and the door unlocked at dawn. Something was terribly wrong about his mother's absence. He went to look for her by walking around his house. He followed the trail of bloody clothing through the bush to its end. His mother's remains laid before him. Amir's voice faltered at the moment he found out what happened to his mother. A lion devoured her.
