1970s horror icon Michael Berryman turned down a role in the film because he felt the script was too shocking.
The film was shot in locations actually frequented by homeless drug addicts. During one day's filming, shooting was delayed for over an hour after the crew were persistently harassed by a large gang of homeless people who wanted to be included in the film.
Police were called by local residents twice during filming. The first occasion was prior to the opening scene when residents thought that the production designers taking the wheels off a car to be used for filming were in fact stealing it. The second occasion was during a scene in which a character is beaten and mugged in an alleyway. Local residents heard the screams and thought a real assault was taking place.
Writer/Director Andrew Jones features in a cameo role as a street busker.
Billed by the UK tabloid press as "the most controversial British film of the year".
