Maggie's changing her room around, but she's sidetracked by the window cleaner, who's charming and amiable. Mrs P takes a shine to him, but when she's spurned, her and Miss Spinney take up surveillance on Maggie's flat.
It's a fun start to the show, the script is good, the lines are good, but the performances are terrific. A fresh faced, and very pretty Julia McKenzie delights as Maggie, Sylvia Coleridge is great as spinster Miss Spinney, but watch this for the comedy master class from Irene Handl, a British institution, will we ever see her like again? I doubt it, she is simply a joy to watch, her timing and delivery are flawless, her mispronunciations are hilarious. This was five years after she'd finished for the love of Ada.
Bernard Holley plays the window cleaner, he's very likeable. There's something very homely and warm about this, enjoyed it. 8/10
