Atomic Bomb Fallout
AaronCapenBanner1 October 2014
Fascinating episode explores the after-affects of the atomic bomb being dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima that led to the end of World War II, with Japan's unconditional surrender. The radioactive fallout from the bombs(one was dropped on fellow city Nagasaki as well) was felt for many years, since it was the first time such weapons were ever used, and the full impact of them was unknown. Survivors were incredibly sick(as actual news footage shows), and many died later, but some contemporary survivors were interviewed, and their account is invaluable. Chilling scene of a human shadow burnt into the pavement, though subject matter receives a fair, even-handed treatment.

In Search Of... "Hiroshima Survivors" (1981)

This is another very good episode for season six and like many of the previous ones it works more as a documentary on the subject than anything else. We learn about the Hiroshima bomb and the horrific damage it did on Japan. From here we get an interview with a witness who saw the plane and "something" that fell out of it. We also get to hear from a variety of survivors and we learn about the death toll and what damage those survivors had moving on. Obviously if you're a history buff then you'll love getting a chance to hear these interviews and if you're unfamiliar with what happened then this is a great place to get some basic information on the bomb.
