Neil Simon: Self

Quotes

  • Neil Simon : It's unlikely you wake up on the upper side of Manhattan, twelve years old, and say with conviction, "I'm gonna be a playwright." Why? I never had-- I had never seen a play until a friend took me to an old... remodeled... That's why I don't like to do this.

    [audience laughs]

Neil Simon : And I could skip some of this.

  • Neil Simon : I found a title in a children's nursery book: "Come Blow Your Horn." Now I was cooking. Then I thought: If "Come Blow Your Horn" is a hit, I already had a sequel: "The Sheep's in the Meadow," followed by "The Cow's in the Corn." Maybe a TV show called "Baa Baa Blackbird," then a movie called "Have You Any Wool?" After twenty-seven total rewrites, we went to Broadway with "Come Blow Your Horn." It received so-so reviews, made a so-so movies with a so-so Frank Sinatra. But it was the first time I had money in the bank. Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.
