"King of the Building" is a failed television pilot that was shown on TV on "CBS Summer Playhouse". The "Summer Playhouse" was where CBS aired many failed pilots--perhaps to recoup their money or, perhaps, to see if folks actually liked some of the shows so that they could be reconsidered.
Richard Lewis stars as Joey, the doorman at a fancy apartment building on Fifth Avenue in New York. His boss is a jerk and he wants to toss an elderly resident out, as she has dementia and he doesn't want to be bothered with her. Joey, on the other hand, is a nice guy and wants to help her...so he devises a scheme to convince the state that she is just fine and doesn't need to be institutionalized.
This is not a bad show but seemed to be a less than stellar fit for the comedian, as the show wasn't exactly a comedy. Despite this, it is modestly entertaining...if not exactly inspired.
