Meager offering from auteur Stanley
Writer-director David Stanley talks a good game in the BTS for this Wicked feature, but the results on screen fail to substantiate his claims. Calling his work a "roundelay" about the happenstance of chance meetings and falling in love it merely lives up to the definition of short and simple.
Major problem here is casting Randy Spears in the male lead, as he completely lacks the charm necessary for the role of a guy who exchanges glances with lovely Sativa Rose at a night club, with their paths crossing many times thereafter but without the usual rom-com happy ending.
Each has a lover getting in the way of their ultimate "destined" relationship together, but while Sativa (reminding me a great deal of current heartthrob Abella Danger) is consistently alluring, Spears' character as played comes off as n unfeeling cad. Stanley contrives a fanciful subplot (most of it off-screen in this cheapie shot in 2 days) of Randy going on vacation to Mexico with his main squeeze Mika Tan, only to return and get romantic with Sativa. Even here, Spears remains just a big cock with a wooden actor attached.
Tan is saddled with the comic relief role, but manages to surmount it out of sheer sexiness. Rest of the cast is strictly along for the ride, and among many extras Stanley can't resist placing himself front and center with a large black & white photo of himself as part of a gallery exhibition for shutterbug Rose, actually shot by Alejandro Guerrero.
