I can never understand why David Main does criminal law.

He is more about corporate law, planning appeals and making money on commercial deals.

The only time Main gets involved in criminal law is if the accused is someone wealthy or important.

New investigator Walter Clegg is interested in the activities of DI Lampeter. He might be a crooked cop who fits people up.

One person who might have been fitted up is Malcolm Evans who has been accused of a robbery. His girlfriend is convinced that Malcolm is innocent.

Lampeter has rounded up several people involved in the robbery but that is not enough. He wants a few more people arrested.

Main discovers that Malcolm might be innocent but only because he was involved in planning another job on the night in question. Malcolm does not want to drag anyone else in court as his alibi.

Just more reasons why Main hates criminal law.

This could had been an adequate episode of Justice also made by Yorkshire TV. It does not work for The Main Chance.

At least Main manages to embarrass Lampeter at the witness stand. Even the Judge begins to doubt Lampeter's methods.

There is some good verbal sparring between Main and Clegg. The best performance was from John Horsley as the Judge who initially seems pro police at first.
