David Main's life in the fastlane takes a tumble. He is involved in a car accident as he rushes to get back to Yorkshire.
Worse his car was not insured. The insurers of the truck whose canisters got loose and fell on to Main's car are denying liability.
Main also has a tricky client. Abdul Naji's brother found one of the Dead Sea scrolls. After the Six days Israeli war, his brother was dead and had been cheated out of the ownership by an academic, Professor Allardyce.
Litigation would be lengthy and expensive. Main advises Naji to write a thinly disguised book about the events and cajole Allardyce to sue him for libel.
It turns out that Allardyce had not been the one who took the artefact from Naji's brother. Allardyce might actually win his libel case.
The car accident case was a bit weak. After all the accident speaks for itself. The contents of the truck became loose and damaged Main's car. It was not sufficiently secured.
As for the scrolls. Part of the plot was borrowed by the real life Oscar Wilde events. How he had been enticed to sue for libel.
Of course there are a few twists, the scroll would be a treasure trove that would arouse government interests regrading ownership.
