The WWII plane is a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk or Kittyhawk in RAF service. Over 14,000 were built. It served in the air forces of 28 nations. Not the fastest nor maneuverable fighter, was known for its ruggedness. Most famous for their exploits in China in 1941-2 by the Flying Tigers and North African Theater of Operations. The planes in both theaters featured a shark mouth with sharp teeth along the nose and eyes just behind the propeller. The shark-mouth design originated with the British in 1941. The Ape-controlled plane featured a screaming Gorilla mouth. This is clearly an homage to the WWII shark-mouth design.
