The Baby Show is another funny episode of 30 Rock
tavm8 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
When Cirie mentions her engagement during Jenna's surprise birthday party, Liz suddenly gets an urge for a baby especially after seeing the makeup lady bring hers. Jack is having phone arguments with his mother about her moving in with him. Tracy cannot stand Joss' constant impersonation of him and threatens Liz to go over her head to Jack about it. After Liz tells Joss about this, Joss impersonates Jack on the phone to Tracy. He then impersonates Tracy to Jack the same way. When they both find out, they convince Joss to fool Jack's mother and Tracy's wife this way to keep from being fired. Makeup lady then asks Liz to carry her baby which Liz accidentally takes to her apartment. Makeup lady then takes a week off as Liz is temporarily cured of her maternal instincts...After a couple of really hilarious episodes, this one is funny with some drama concerning Liz's character. Nice welcome return of Chris Parnell as Dr. Spaceman as well as Rachel Dratch's character of the cat wrangler from the pilot episode. Excellent use of Lonny Ross as Joss with his dead-on impersonations of Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin. If you haven't seen 30 Rock yet, I suggest you start now since this show is definitely on fire!

Warning: Spoilers
The Baby Show is a solid episode of 30 Rock's first season. In it, Jack realizes that his mentoring of Liz has been complicated by Liz's sudden feminine desire to have a baby. Jack is not pleased because of the negative experience he had with his mother growing up, and into the present day over the phone. He fears Liz may become the same kind of mother. Meanwhile, Tracy and Josh come into conflict over Josh's impressions of Tracy.

The Baby Show consistently gives the viewers several (albeit small) laughs. One double meaning of the words "hook up" was sharp and I didn't get it when I first watched it. Tina Fey is also solid in this episode, earning her Golden Globe, while Jack McBrayer is good as always. The episode has more toilet humour than I'd like, but it doesn't go overboard with it.

Amusing!

The ninth episode in the delightful 30 Rock series is a rather hilarious one that has some uproarious comedy and some crazy-funny one-liners(I'm looking at you Alec Baldwin.) But the story lines are consistent with their jokes and untimely situations and there are even some real-life spoofs here that many people may not come to realize.

This episode, "The Baby Show," has Tracy wanting Josh to be dismissed because he is not impressed with Josh imitating him. Meanwhile, Liz's assistant has plans to marry a guy she's been dating for only three months. Finally, Jack is having his own problems with his mother.

Overall, this is a funny episode and as people like to point out, this is Alec's show. He earned many Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his work and it's not hard to see why. In general, a very funny episode. I rate this episode 9/10.

"This is Jack Donaghy."

30 Rock remains as excellent as ever with this highly amusing episode, which was used to secure Alec Baldwin's Emmy nomination in 2007 (he lost out to Ricky Gervais, but that's another story). Boy, did he deserve it.

Jack keeps mentoring Liz, but problems ensue when Liz has a conversation about marriage and family with the newly engaged Cerie and realizes she wants a baby more than anything. Unfortunately, Jack can't do anything to comfort her, since the subject has brought back painful memories of his own childhood, reinforced by his mother's constant phone calls from the nursing home. Another source of distress is Josh (Lonny Ross), whose Tracy impression is starting to bug the eccentric comedian. It doesn't get any better when he starts impersonating Jack to get away with it.

There are so many great things in The Baby Show, it's hard to make a comprehensive list. Most poignant is the baby storyline, a funny counterpoint to Tina Fey's real-life motherhood (she gave birth to a girl a whole year before the show went on the air), which also allows Chris Parnell to return as the incompetent Dr. Spaceman (man, I just love that name). Rachel Dratch reprises one of her guest roles as well, namely the instantly adorable Greta, the Cat Lady. But in the end this is Baldwin's show, and his Emmy nomination was a certainty from the moment he describes his worst infancy trauma: "My mother wanted to send me to Vietnam to make a man out of me. I was twelve.".

The Baby Show (#1.9)

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode Cerie gets engaged and after her telling to Liz that one has always time for career but only limited time to be a mom Liz becomes baby crazy.

Tracy and Josh have a conflict about Josh impersonating Tracy. While Jack is stressed out because of his mother.

Another awesome episode. Tina fey made an amazing performance. My favorite character of this episode though is Josh. Him calling Tracy as Jack was hilarious. And him not understanding what they are doing when Liz directed his phone conversations with Jack and Tracy to save the situation was fantastic
