  Karen Hayes : I just got off the phone with Jack: his being held in custody by CTU

  Karen Hayes : And his "claiming" he will trade the sub circuit board for his grandson but Jack thinks it's a set up that Philip will get the boy, keep the component, make a deal with the Chinese, and I completely agree

  Bill Buchanan : Have you spoken to Nadia Yassir?

  Karen Hayes : Oh, she won't budge on this thing: she's under direct orders from the Vice President

  Bill Buchanan : What're you asking me to do?

  Karen Hayes : Whatever it takes to stop the exchange

  Nadia Yassir : The agent handling the exchange is in position with the boy: his waiting to be contacted, I did tell the White House I would report in as soon as it happened

  Karen Hayes : Yes I know, I just wanted to make sure that everyone's "on board", that no one, including yourself, has any doubts that this is the right "course of action"

  Nadia Yassir : The order coming from the Vice President isn't being questioned

  Karen Hayes : What's the status of Jack Bauer?

  Nadia Yassir : His currently being transferred to detention at District

  Karen Hayes : Good, I need to be able to view the operation on your internal grid

  Vice President Noah Daniels : You and I have had our differences but I thought that we've worked past them but you and I finally reached an upstanding: clearly, I was mistaken. What in the hell were you thinking?

  Karen Hayes : I learned a hard "lesson" today sir when I trusted Fayed

  Vice President Noah Daniels : What "lesson" was that?

  Karen Hayes : Never negotiate with a sociopath: Philip Bauer is a sociopath. We can't trust he'll give us that component whether we give him the boy or not

  Vice President Noah Daniels : [Sternly]  damn it that is not your call to make

  Karen Hayes : I understand that sir. I wouldn't have done what I did if I wasn't willing to accept the consequences

  Vice President Noah Daniels : Oh, believe me there will be consequences, I'll make sure you and your husband go down hard for this. It was Tom Lennox who said your different point of view would be an "asset" to my team and I believed him. Was he in on this with you?

  Karen Hayes : No sir, he didn't know anything about this

  Vice President Noah Daniels : If Jack Bauer prevents this exchange from happening, the Russians will attack our forces in Central Asia: any blood that is "spilled" will be on you
