- [Abu Fayed and Dmitri Gredenko sneak into a bar, unfortunately full of people and on the TV is the news about the day]
- Dmitri Gredenko: [lets Fayed walk ahead looks at TV] I know that man. I recognize him.
- [points at Abu]
- Dmitri Gredenko: He's that man there!
- Abu Fayed: [angrily] You son of a bitch!
- [all hell breaks loose as Fayed tries shooting Gredenko but he manages to get behind a wall. Some of the patrons go after Fayed but Fayed shoots one and then runs dry on his pistol. Everyone takes advantage of this and knocks Fayed to the ground beating him up until Jack Bauer comes in firing 2 shots into the ceiling]
- Jack Bauer: I'm a federal agent! I need you to step away so I can take that guy into custody. He's a wanted man!
- Bar Guy: He just shot my friend!
- Jack Bauer: I'm sorry about that, but I'll get an EMT in here quickly.
- Abu Fayed: [spits] I hope your friend dies!
- Jack Bauer: Shut up!
- [kicks Fayed in the face]
- Bill Buchanan: [Over the phone] what'd you have?
- Jack Bauer: Gredenko offered us Fayed in exchange for immunity and a guarantee we won't extradite him back to Russia. Bill I don't trust him: he "rolled over" too easy
- Bill Buchanan: What'd you think his "play" is?
- Jack Bauer: I don't know yet
- Bill Buchanan: It's your call but you should know what's happening in Washington. President Palmer's regained consciousness
- Jack Bauer: How is he?
- Bill Buchanan: Well enough to reassert his Presidency but Daniels is challenging him under the twenty fifth Amendment in part so he can go ahead with the nuclear strike on Fayed's country
- Jack Bauer: Does he have a chance of winning?
- Bill Buchanan: It's unclear. If Fayed detonates another bomb, no one will be able to stand in Daniels' way
- Jack Bauer: If this is a challenge for the Presidency, the immunity agreement will have no authority: it won't be binding. Bill you need to understand I have no intention of honoring this agreement. Tell the Attorney General to draw up the papers
- President Wayne Palmer: [addressing the members Cabinet, referring to invoking the twenty fifth Amendment] the Vice President initiated this process because I stopped him from launching a nuclear strike on the Middle East but this function shouldn't be about policy. according to the Constitution, your here to judge me to see if I am unable to discharge the duties of my Office: as you can see and as you were just told by my physician, I am in complete possession of my faculties so to remove me from this Office would be to both betray your oath and the American people, who voted me as their President
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Addressing the members Cabinet, referring to invoking the twenty fifth Amendment] ladies and gentlemen of the Cabinet, the twenty fifth Amendment is purposely vague on how your suppose to judge if the President is unable to discharge his duties: it's open to interpretation, which is why this is very much about the President's policies and his "actions." Here are the facts: when a second nuclear attack today spreads radiation over one of our major cities, I decided it was necessary to launch retaliatory strike to show our enemies that if attacked, we would make them share our pain. Wayne Palmer's first act upon regaining consciousness was to stop that strike. to respond to the attack by doing nothing and in a time of war, the President must be strong enough in body and mind to defend this country and I'm afraid Wayne Palmer's "actions" are the proof in this matter that he is indeed unable to discharge his duties
- Mike Doyle: [after she enters his office] have a seat. Look I know you and I got off on kind of a "bad start"
- Nadia Yassir: A "bad start"? You assaulted me
- Mike Doyle: This country is under attack by Islamic terrorists: we had reason to believe there was a mole in this building. Starting with you wasn't "racist", it was "common sense"
- Nadia Yassir: [Sarcastically] oh ok, you're not a racist, your just a sadist
- Mike Doyle: You don't know me
- Nadia Yassir: I think I do. Why'd you call me here?
- Mike Doyle: Turns out, there was no mole: the terrorists were able to hack into our system because "someone" screwed up and logged wrong security parameters. I'm pretty sure that "someone" was Milo, and the "proof" is on his computer, I need someone to get it without noticing
- Nadia Yassir: I can't do that
- Mike Doyle: Why? Is it because your too busy deciding whether you want to sleep with him? Listen, if you don't get the "evidence" for me, I'm going to call a forensic team and they're going to come and tear his system apart as the entire floor watches and they find what I think they're going to find, everyone gets to watch Milo get hauled out of this building in handcuffs. I'm sure it wasn't pleasant when it happened to you but you're going to "stand by" and watch it happen to him? That's your idea of being a "friend"
- Nadia Yassir: [Stands up] so you want me to betray him for his own good?
- Mike Doyle: I promise you, Milo will be better off if you help me, than if you don't, your call
- Mike Doyle: "And mankind was naught but a single nation"
- Nadia Yassir: [Surprised] you've read the Quran?
- Mike Doyle: And the Bible, and the Upanishads: anything I can get my hands on. You're lucky you found your answers, I'm still looking for mine
- Dmitri Gredenko: [after hanging up the phone with his lawyer] good, my attorney has verified the agreements
- Jack Bauer: [to Bill over the phone] we're set: Gredenko is ready to make the call
- Bill Buchanan: Alright, we'll be standing by. Doyle's got a team ready to go as soon as Fayed tells Gredenko where his going to meet him
- Jack Bauer: Copy that
- Jack Bauer: [to Gredenko] if you try and warn Fayed, in anything you say or how you say it, I will kill you right here right now
- Dmitri Gredenko: I believe you
- Jack Bauer: Make the call
- Abu Fayed: [Over the phone as CTU monitors the call] yes?
- Dmitri Gredenko: It's me
- Abu Fayed: Do you have the security protocols for the power plant?
- Dmitri Gredenko: Yes, where do you want to meet?
- Abu Fayed: Are you certain you're not under surveillance?
- Dmitri Gredenko: Of course. Do you think I'd be calling you otherwise?
- Abu Fayed: I can't allow another one of your mistakes to disrupt my plans for the remaining two devices
- Dmitri Gredenko: Do you want the protocols or not?
- Abu Fayed: Where are you right now?
- Dmitri Gredenko: Culver City
- Abu Fayed: Meet me in the Santa Monica Pier in ten minutes
- Dmitri Gredenko: It might take me more time
- Abu Fayed: I won't wait
- Dmitri Gredenko: Where do I find you?
- Abu Fayed: [Before hanging up] just be there, I'll find you
- Sandra Palmer: If the Cabinet sides with you, what're you going to do about Daniels?
- President Wayne Palmer: Unfortunately, the Constitution doesn't allow the President to fire his Vice President
- Karen Hayes: No, but you can "marginalize" him
- Sandra Palmer: Karen's right: get him out of the bunker
- President Wayne Palmer: I would love to but Daniels has way too many supporters and I can't afford to alienate any one of them right now. Besides, I'd like to have him somewhere I can keep an eye on him
- Karen Hayes: [Over the phone] hi, it's me
- Bill Buchanan: Hey, how'd the Cabinet vote go?
- Karen Hayes: It was a tie: which in effect Palmer's still in Office
- Bill Buchanan: That's good. That's what we wanted
- Karen Hayes: Yes but Daniels is contesting it: his saying my vote is invalid
- Bill Buchanan: Based on what?
- Karen Hayes: Based on the fact that I resigned and I was never officially reinstated
- Bill Buchanan: That's ridiculous, you attended Cabinet meetings, and you had no replacement assigned. How does he explain that?
- Karen Hayes: I know but maybe his right? I did hand in my resignation
- Bill Buchanan: Which was rescinded before it was officially accepted. Daniels knows that, his "grasping at straws"
- Karen Hayes: I'm so scared. If he wins, this will all be my fault
- Bill Buchanan: Stop, its "desperate maneuvering" on his part: nothing more. He hasn't got a case, the Supreme Court will agree
- Karen Hayes: [after looking at her watch] well, we're giving our arguments in fifteen minutes
- Bill Buchanan: Call me as soon as the decision's in
- Karen Hayes: Thank you for being there
- Bill Buchanan: You don't have to thank me: it's my job
- Karen Hayes: I miss you so much
- Bill Buchanan: I miss you too, I'll talk to you soon
- Karen Hayes: [Before hanging up] bye
- Karen Hayes: [to Wayne and Sandra while handing him a folder] instructions from the Supreme Court our arguments have to submitted in writing, in the next ten minutes
- President Wayne Palmer: Sandra's working on her brief. How's it coming?
- Sandra Palmer: I'm just about finished. You have a strong case
- Sandra Palmer: [to Karen] you resign, Daniels was in charge when you returned: so the legal question is did he consent to your reinstatement?
- Karen Hayes: Of course he did
- Sandra Palmer: And he made no objections when you returned to the bunker? You sat in his first Cabinet meeting and he never "questioned" your right to be there?
- Karen Hayes: No, he didn't
- Sandra Palmer: [to Wayne] his own actions prove our case
- President Wayne Palmer: [to Sandra] Thank you for everything
- Vice President Noah Daniels: This document explains everything that I never really "intended" to reinstate Karen. I was only allowing her to perform her duties temporarily, therefore she had no authority to cast a vote under the twenty fifth Amendment
- Lisa Miller: The problem is after Karen returned, you "treated" her as the National Security Advisor
- Vice President Noah Daniels: It's really a question of my "state of mind", isn't it?
- Lisa Miller: Yes and your "state of mind" will be inferred from your actions
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Amused] sounds like you don't think our chances are very good
- Lisa Miller: I don't
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Then I am deeply afraid for our country. When the world sees that Wayne Palmer isn't willing to fight back: our enemies will be encouraged, these recent attacks will be just the beginning. America will be vulnerable in a way it never has been
- Lisa Miller: There may be a "way" to "illuminate" your "state of mind" more "explicitly"? I could swear to an affidavit that earlier today you told me to inform Karen Hayes you had no intention of reinstating her and you were going to allow her perform her duties on a temporary basis only then Wayne regained consciousness before I could have that conversation with her
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Shaking his head] you're talking about perjuring yourself in front of the Supreme Court
- Lisa Miller: [Sternly] I'm aware of that its perjury but the "ends justifies the means." My affidavit will push the court to rule in your favor so that you can do "what's right" for this country
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [after thinking it over] your right: do it. "Prepare" your affidavit
- Vice President Noah Daniels: [Talking privately] there is "something" in this room you need to know about sir
- Vice President Noah Daniels: "Something" in this room? What're you talking about?
- Tom Lennox: [while picking up a decorative tray] this small object here is a micro transmitter. After you directed me to lie to the Ambassador about the attempted assassination, I decided to protect myself. Now it turns out, I was protecting the country as well
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Be careful: be very careful on what you try to do here
- Tom Lennox: [Before taking out and playing a digital recording of Daniels and Miller conspiring to commit perjury] actually sir, you're the one who needs to be careful here
- Vice President Noah Daniels: Turn it off
- Tom Lennox: As I'm sure you're aware of sir, conspiracy to commit perjury is a felony offense: now I strongly urge you to pick up that phone and call the Supreme Court. You tell them you have withdrawn your affidavit and that of Ms. Miller as well, tell them that you support the vote of the Cabinet. That you no further objections to President Palmer continuing his Presidency
- Vice President Noah Daniels: You do understand that I was only trying to do what's right for this country?
- Tom Lennox: So am I sir. Are you going to make that call now sir?
- President Wayne Palmer: I need the launch protocols: the Joint Chiefs said it was Vice President Daniels along with chain of command setting
- Sandra Palmer: They just came over from the Pentagon, everything is in place. If the Court sides with you, you can cancel the strike permanently
- President Wayne Palmer: Also, I want an update on the situation with Fayed. Has CTU made any progress?
- Karen Hayes: Yes, they have Gredenko in custody, the last time I talked to Bill, they said they were to "use" him to lure Fayed out in the open
- President Wayne Palmer: Who's running it?
- Karen Hayes: Jack Bauer
- President Wayne Palmer: Good
- Sandra Palmer: [Urgently walking into the room] Wayne, the Supreme Court was just notified: Daniels withdrew his suit
- President Wayne Palmer: What?
- Sandra Palmer: It's over, he gave up before the Court had a chance to make a decision
- President Wayne Palmer: [Confused] why?
- Sandra Palmer: I don't know, I just know your still President of the United States
- President Wayne Palmer: [to Karen after Sandra leaves] let the Cabinet know I won't take any action against those who sided with the Vice President
