Every now and then, you just need a vacation. Get away from your hectic life and let down your hair, go wild, have fun, and do it all in someone else's place. Otherwise, your stress will get the better of you and you may very well explode. Such is Jane Jetson's case as George takes her to the doctor's for a check-up. After checking her ears, nose, throat, eyes, and various other things, he concludes that Jane is perfectly healthy, but she swears she isn't, and demonstrates how her fingers keep getting into knots. It all comes from pushing too many buttons. Yeah, she does all the button pushing around the house. To get lazy George out of bed and into a cold shower, she has to push a button. To get lazy Elroy and Judy out of bed, she has to push a button. To serve breakfast and get down pat exactly what the family wants to eat, she has to push, you guessed it, a button. The doctor diagnoses Jane with Push-Buttonitis and recommends a nice, relaxing vacation on a dude planet. Nothing like kicking back in the atmosphere that is the old west...or, the NEW old west. Robot horses, mechanical bulls, reenacting the third Civil War, you know. So, Jane heeds the doctor's advice and books a trip to the Beta Bar Ranch on Beta III. She invites her girl friend Helen to come along for company, and they leave the next morning. Well, Jane was on her way to a restful, relaxing weekend get away, but what about the house and the kids? Can George Jetson manage to take care of both on his own?
Well, the kids can take care of themselves, but apparently George can't take care of himself. When trying to wash dishes, he gets trapped inside the washing unit. Henry Orbit attempts to get him out, running George through the whole cycle, before finally ejecting him via the burnt toast ejector. George's temper was well done at this point; Jane enjoys a mechanical bull rodeo and then decides to call home. When receiving her call, George cranks up the music and puts on a stupid hat to look as though he's having a party. See, he really missed Jane but he didn't want to spoil her vacation. Unfortunately, he ended up succeeding because the charade lead Jane to believe he was having an affair. Unable to take this restful retreat with her imagination getting the better of her, Jane rushes home and demands to know where "she" is. Naturally George has no clue what she's talking about, but his furious wife won't believe him. Once again, it's Henry to the rescue, bringing back the retractile bed he'd repaired and asks George and Jane to sit down to try it out... repaired nothing. It springs up and catches them in the middle, but this gives them adequate time to explain their feelings. For George, there was no other. Jane admits to overreacting and they rekindle their flame as the bed takes them around the park.
This episode was alright. The scene of George going through the wash cycle was hilarious. This is really a clear cut example of how dependent we really get, or in some cases already are, on machines to do our work for us, but it in turn is work for us to push the buttons to get the machines to do the work for us...it's really an on-going cycle with absolutely no end, so sit back and enjoy the ride. If you like futuristic gadgets and stereotypical westerns, then Dude Planet is for you.
