Thomas and Sarah enter society!
arrival10 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
AUGUST, 1911 This shows Thomas and Sarah at their most successful - owning their own business, doing well, and accepted into high society. However; Thomas has more ambitious plans of seeking their fortune in America. Sarah, understandably so, would rather stick to what she knows and does not wish to take the risk against many odds - and in a foreign country. Happy at what they're doing, she lies to Thomas and says she's expecting a baby in order to get him to 'postpone' their trip to the States for at least a little while, in the hope he'll become satisfied with his lot in England in time.

However; there's a twist in the tale; Thomas, quite by chance, finds out that Sarah has been lying to him. In equal measures; Sarah's 'really' is pregnant - but doesn't know it! When Thomas finds out Sarah's 'deception', he gets angry and is about to give Sarah a 'belting' (and for those in shock out there; this was what poor wives got for disobeying their husbands in Victorian/Edwardian times - thank God both times and men have changed!)

Thomas humiliates Sarah in public by revealing all their sordid past whilst invited to a high society dinner party. The shame of this - coupled with Thomas finally revealing his uncovering of her 'deception', Sarah collapses and loses the child neither were aware she was carrying in reality...

One of the very best episodes from the series.
