Now this is taking mundane to an extreme!
I usually cut young film makers a lot of slack when I review their short films. Often these films are about rather mundane things, but the essential reason for some of these movies is not so much to entertain or be commercially successful but to be a training ground for the craft. So what may seem boring and pointless to some might actually be quite an accomplishment for a young film maker or just an experiment in style or content. Of course, in the case of THE MORNING SUN, it's just boring and apparently does NOT have a point that is discernible to the average viewer. According to the IFC website where the video is now posted, the film is "a study in the use of available light and narrative restraint". Yeah, right. In the film all you see is a woman wake up, do her morning routine and leave...and that's all. Well, I certainly would agree that there is "narrative restraint"--it's so restrained that I kept waiting and waiting for a payoff that never arrived--now THAT'S restraint!
