Dumpling Drooling
injury-6544723 June 2020
This is a fun and memorable episode.

The hilarity comes from Usagi's insane obsession with losing weight. The way she drools over that dumpling in the street (enough to scare a young child) is great.

Lazy, stupid and greedy. What a heroine!

This is the first episode where we don't get a villainess. For a change of pace, there are instead a trio of buff gym guys wearing mind controlling headbands.

Also, Jadeite manages to be half successful for once, according to Queen Beryl. Good on him!

Aged poorly, mixed feelings
BananaStew525 May 2023
Just to start off, if you're someone who struggles with body dysmorphia, eating disorder, or if you're sensitive on those subjects, just skip this episode. It handles its themes pretty poorly overall, and is not worth your time. I really enjoy this show, but this episode is not great.

As soon as I saw the title of this episode I was skeptical but went in with an open mind, hoping that the episode would offer some positive messages and hold up well. The episode kinda offered that, but mostly failed. It seems to not really know what it wants to get across. There are multiple characters who talk about how you don't need to be skinny to be beautiful and you should be careful trying to get skinny etc, but a lot of what was being talked about was really backwards. This episode doesn't have to be a perfect PSA on body positivity or hold up perfectly to todays standards, but it really fumbles the ball and is uncomfortable at times. And I'm someone who reads and watches plenty of stuff that has aged poorly, and a lot of the times it doesn't bother me much. This episode did, maybe it's because of a lot of my personal connection to the subject, but a lot of the episodes themes were handled poorly. At times it felt like it was intelligent commentary on how young people are obsessed with appearance and a certain standard of what their body should look like and how people influence that mindset and abuse those people using that. It was mainly the middle portion of the episode that felt that way, then towards the end it fumbled the ball. Usagi was very stupid in this episode, and never learned her lesson. All of the people who say good positive things get kinda overlooked and overshadowed by Usagi and Usagi's behavior. Mediocre episode that does not handle its serious subject matter well. Considering that the audience of this show is often comprised of young teenagers, I really don't like the mixed messages. Worth skipping.
