Despite its critical drubbing, Victoria Beckham's NBC special pulled in OK numbers Monday night.
Victoria Beckham: Coming to America, which was originally supposed to be a six-episode series but was whittled down into a one-hour special, averaged 4.9 million viewers and a 2.2 rating/7 share in the adults 18-49 demo, according to preliminary estimates released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. That was good enough to give the special the demo win in its 8 p.m. slot. A repeat of ABC's Wife Swap (5.3 million, 2.0/6) took the hour in total viewers.
At 9 p.m., a new episode of Fox's Hell's Kitchen (8.2 million, 4.0/11) posted its second-highest demo and viewers numbers so far this season. The show easily won the hour -- and the night -- in both metrics.
A new episode of NBC's Age of Love (4.5 million, 1.8/5) posted its lowest demo rating in its five weeks on the air, though it did grow from a 1.7/5 in its first half-hour to a 1.9/5 in its second.

NBC confirmed Wednesday that Victoria Beckham's upcoming reality series will air as a primetime special.
The network said the hourlong special, titled Victoria Beckham: Coming to America, is set to air at 8 p.m. July 16. It will give viewers an "exclusive look" inside the life of the former Spice Girl -- aka Posh Spice -- as she makes the move from London to Los Angeles.
"Viewers will get a firsthand glimpse into what it's like to be one of the most sought-after celebrities in the world," said Craig Plestis, executive vp alternative programming, development and specials at NBC Entertainment. "Victoria's every move is documented by the paparazzi, but only our cameras have been allowed inside the world of what being Victoria Beckham is really like."
The network announced the project as a six-episode series in February. But there was recent speculation in the British media about problems on the show that arose once her husband, David Beckham, was recalled to play with the English national team late last month.
